atxryan
I just set up a tunze calcium reactor and have a ph controller and regulator and sylanoid. should I put the probe in the aquarium or to measure the effluent out of the reactor? PLEASE HELP
JimD
You want to measure the effluent Ph either in the reactor or a seperate cantainer that the effluent feeds into, not the tank although you shouls also be moniroring the tank Ph as well. I feed the effluent into a small cantainer that holds the probe and the effluent tube placed inside my skimmer...
atxryan
what do you set the Ph of the effluent to?
atxryan
Do you have low ph in the morning?
+Mitch
i plan on setting up one of these inline probe holder but with JG ball valves instead: http://www.myreefcreations.com/pH-Probe-holder-Tee ideas originally presented here: http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6/diy-in-line-ph-probe-holder-125845.html just ordered these: http://www.marinedepot.com/JG_1_4_inch_x_1_4_inch_Male_Adaptor_Ball_Valve_John_Guest_Parts_for_RO_DI_Water_Filter_Systems-JG-RO5353-FIROJG-vi.html http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?idproduct=OP3171&idCartRow=16610018&isKit=0&child=OP3171
+Daniel
I was going to do something similar to Mitch, but the method Jim suggested is just as effective. Here's an example of what Jim was describing on Melev's tank: Ghetto version: http://www.melevsreef.com/pics/07/10/ca_reactor_in_sump1.jpg Nicer version: http://www.melevsree...fluent_cup1.jpg (full article: http://www.melevsree...um_reactor.html) Daniel
caferacermike
FYI, any of those cool PH holders can be bought at the local pool/spa supply house. They make some really small ones that use a different probe but the same connection.

atxryan
How do I keep my tank ph from dropping at night?
JimD
Drip kalkwasser...
atxryan
I use kalk in my ato.. will that fix any low ph at night?
atxryan
my reactor requires 4 bubbles per sec to achieve 6.5 in the effluent. Is that a normal amount for a new reactor? will the co2 required decrease with time?
Zarathustra2
I know where you should stick your PH Probe!!!! (Sorry, had too.) On a serious note, besides the kalk drip you can also have a lighted refugium on a reverse cycle from your main lights to stabalize PH. atxryan
Is 7.9 too low in the morning??
caferacermike
Yes. If that is the tank PH. Your PH is one of the most critical items to keep stable. It doesn't have to be a perfect 8.4 but it needs to stay relatively fluctuation free. If you are swinging .6 from day to night I would be looking into alternate methods. I run a large light over my fuge 24hours to offset any swing from CO2 exchange at night. Using a quality salt mix with good buffers in it will help prevent swings but you must make regular water changes of a decent percentage or the buffers will get used up. Mike, what are you using for your fuge light?
atxryan
my tank gets up to 8.2 at the end of the light cycle. I have a fuge that has been running 24/7 but I am trying to change it to a reverse light cycle. With a .3 swing, is there an issue
