unbrandedbutter
my prizm protein skimmer has been making rattling noises, the kind that has the impeller blades spinning and hitting something all together. I have disassemble the skimmer, and found the metal pin shaft for the motor comes off, and probably caused the rattling noise when the thing is spinning at faster rate. Do yall know a quick fix to this? or do I just need to get the replacement part? thanks.
JAY-ROC
Is the metal shaft broken? If not it may be something else, you should be able to remove the shaft. You might try dissasembling it and rinse it out to see if maybe there is anything foreign in there causing the noise. I've got one in my garage I'll pull it apart and take a look at it to see if maybe something else could cause this noise.
caferacermike
Do yall know a quick fix to this? Yes the best quick fix is to toss it out and replace it with a better skimmer. I've yet to see a Prizm actually do a good job. The CPR units seem to do a much better job, better yet is the hang on tank Deltec. In the middle a small Corallife skimmer would do a better job than the Prizm. If you are considering spending money to fix it, consider replacing it. unbrandedbutter
I went to the fish store to check out if the metal pin shaft can be removed, and I was right... it shouldn't. I am contact prizm to see if I can buy the motor unit for replacement. I got this skimmer for free, but i will consider the upgrade when I have a sump or a fancier tank. thanks. ReeferMadness
If you know the motor itself still works you can just buy a replacement impeller and save a couple dollars to put to another skimmer. Just google Red Sea Prizm replacement pump and it should bring up several options.
KaceyJ
for a prizm, the entire energizer can be bought online for $20, impeller should be $9-11. And for it being free, you can not beat the skim per dollar factor there. Prizms WORK, you just have to empty them more often.
