sprintermike
Howdy, I am a Houston MARSH member who will be visiting Austin today and tomorrow. Any recommendations for stores I can stop into? I will only be free on Sunday (so they need to be open on Sunday). I would prefer places that sell "cool" frags that are smaller and cheaper (ie a 2 head acan frag or a 3-4 poly frag of some nice zoas, etc). Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! mike c
rosslonghorns
Check out the Sponsors! Aquatek and River City! Both great stops during your trip in Austin.
tropheusmaster
Aqua Dome is my favorite. has saltwater fish upstairs at a good price. Aqua tek is a real nice place as well and also river city aquatics. I have been to many of the Houston stores as i travel there every week but Austin will beat the Houston prices

joshman1204
River city gets my vote and my money I have found that the staff at river city has been the most helpful in getting me up and running on my first tank. Aqua tek is a nice place but I never can seem to get any help when I go in there.
tropheusmaster
I seem to have good luck at all three stores mentioned, but i mostly shop at aqua dome, best selection and price
AndrewT
Aqua dome ussually has great prices on their coral... Im a little cautious of their livestock though, Rivercity is the most helpful and has best costumer service. Rivercity also has the best prices on their livestock and their fish always seem to be in great condition. aquatek usualy has some good deals on their corals in the 45 dollar tank. My 2 cents

caferacermike
Gary and Terry are just as awesome or even awesomer since they took a chance and hired Hunter. Dome, Tek, and River City. The only shops to bother visiting while in town. There are others but I wouldn't waste my time at them if I was on a time schedule.
JEN H
My husband and I give our vote for Aqua Dome. I happened to find it online when we were moving from Columbus, OH down here. We had to ship a tank of fish down here overnight, and Hunter made sure to give them a tank and take care of them until we were able to get our tank set up. After that, we have been a customer there 100% of the time. I don't know of any LFS that would have done that for us. Hunter, Gary, and Terry are all great folks, and they have alot of experience in fish keeping between all of them. They never steer us wrong when picking anything, and we have had great luck there with livestocks and corals.

barderer
River City - Best prices on dry goods/ Fair to good prices on livestock. They are good supporters of the reef club etc. This is my favorite store. AquaTek - By far the most expensive. Overpriced livestock but good location and its reliable as its been there forever. Their stuff is usually healthy. AquaDome - Cheapest prices on fish and best selection of saltwater fish I have ever seen. VERY high priced dry goods. I was charged 15 bucks for some frozen mysis there the other day and then saw it at aquatek for 6 bucks a few days later. Sigh. They have there own discount program and don't offer a MAAST discount. pbnj
I have yet to check out Aquadome because it's a drive for me, but I'm planning on making a visit soon. RCA's livestock prices are way better than AquaTek's. I've bought a couple of fish at AquaTek, but never any corals. I've seen some LPS at AquaTek closing in on $100 that would be in RCA's $29/$39 tanks. And $10/lb for cured live rock?....come on. But both have quality livestock and are very customer-friendly RCA is always my first stop though....Jake's the Man for your saltwater plan. +ACampbell
Please don't forget about rule #8 of the board guidelines. We all know that local fish stores have their pros and cons. Please do not defame the stores that support our community.
