Long
I have 2 year old 75 gallon reef tank with 5 tangs, some anthias,a couple of green chromis and other reef safe fishes. I am running sump with aqua C 240 as the protein skimmer. The tank has about 200lbs of live rock. Yesterday after work I notice that my "Nemo" (as my kids call him) eye was bulge on one side. Today both eyes are bulged. Do you guys know what is causing this problem? I have owned this guy for over 1.5 years and he eats well. I hope its not contagious to where my other fishes will get it thanks Long
GKarshens
Hard to tell from the picture but it sounds like pop-eye. There are treatments for that but I am not sure if they are reef safe. Go a google search for pop-eye and see what you find. On a side note you may not realize this but having even one Tang in a 75 is pushing it. Having 5 is a ton. Do you notice any aggression or do the fish seem to pace? Swimming back and forth a lot. There may be a lot of stress among your fish and this may have something to do with your Clown's problem. HTH. The tanks seems at peace since none of them are showning signs of stress. Their bodies and fins are not scratched up. I also have a cleaner wrasse that is helping out a lot. I am thinking of upgrading to a larger tank but have to wait and ride out this economy problem. Do you think I should catch him out for now to avoid getting the other fishes sick? thanks. GKarshens
If possible. I would do some reading on pop-eye and see if that matches what he has. If so you may be able to treat him separately.

He's got pop eye. I am going to leave him alone and see if he can pull through. I diverted all current away from him so there shouldn't be any stress. thanks for helping.. JEN H
If your fish has popeye, I would recommend getting it out of your tank and into quarantine to treat it. We had a bannerfish that got popeye in our big tank. He didn't make it, and it is hard to say if they will make it or not. No one seems to be sure what causes that problem. We have read that it could be a bacterial infection to worse. We got a powder med that we put into the QT water. We dosed as it said. The fish didn't make it, but hopefully yours will. Good luck! Jimbo
From what I remember, it is generally a bacterial infection if in both eyes. I had a yellow tang that got it in one eye, I always assumed from bumping rockwork. The fish lived, but it did lose the eye. My father still has the fish, so here's hoping you can treat it.
