+Capt. Obvious
basically the title says it all.. over the past 3 days the J tube of the protein skimmer on my daughter's 28 bowfront has began growing some sort of brown algae (internally). but the display is fine. do I need to clean this out or just leave it be? all tank levels are optimal. will post pictures later

+ACampbell
Wrapping it in electrical tape will prevent it from growing. Just a thought, not sure if that is a good idea.
Cool Breeze
My filter on my 3 gallon does the same thing. I just leave it.

Skippy11
I have used HOB Overflows for years, I personally would not paint a J or U tube. If it is painted you will not be able to tell if there is an accumulation of bubbles that might break the siphon. I just keep 2 and swap them out when they start to get an algae build up, they clean up really easy with a brush or papertowel and hot water.
