We call a lot of things generically 'mushrooms'.   How compatible are the various species?   Do they fight, or are they mostly compatible?   Any special ones to keep apart?

  • Ricordea
  • Yuma
  • Rhodactis
  • Discomusa
  • St. Thomas
  • Bounce (but I don't think this is a species but a mutation.)

Right now, all of mine are co-existing but I know better than to assume that this is always the case.  :D   I'm really digging on them in the tank and thinking of adding a nice Yuma and Disco to the mix if that won't cause a total war to break out.)

Yuma and St. THomas are both names for Ricordia.   Species from each genus should be compatible with sibling species but not with species from other genus.   FWIW the genus Discosoma has been changed to Actinodiscosoma.  "Bounce"  appears to be a condition that found in other corals besides mushrooms and blue light is one of the variables that influences it.  I think there's another handful of mushroom or coralmorph genus but they're not encountered very often.

Here's a paper looking at the "bounce" issue

I'm a hobbyist, not a taxonomist Jim!  :D

Thanks for the info. It prodded me to dig through Wikipedia: Disco, Rhodactis, and Ricordea are genus.  So, now I know.

I'll try to not add Disco and complicate my life.
