AndrewT Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 So after a bit of reasearch and in a desprate attempt to lower my nitrates and phospates I decided to give them a shot. Ive been dosing Vodka and sugar both now for about a week and a half. Allready Ive seen a dramatic change. In just a weeks time my nitrates have dropped from about 50ppm to 12ppm phospates down as well. My water seems to be crystal clear... almost unreal. Ive also noticed the polyps on my sps extending much further than ussual and a clear increase in the color of my frags. It seems like a few of my frags may even be growing. Ive had several frags for months and hadnt seen any growth and now they seem to be slowly but surely branching. Is this all too good to be true? Quote

AndrewT Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 I started dosing about .04 ml of vodka for the first week and have now bumped the dose to .05 2x daily. I stared dosing the sugar because id read that when dosing vodka a certain bacteria will become dominate in the tank. The sugar is a means of diversifying the bacteria colonies in the tank, but will also aid in cleaning up the tank. I've been dosing less than a quarter of a teaspoon of sugar once a day.(a very small pinch) i had a recent post on it in reef discussions there is a link to a few articles that go more in depth with the process. This is a very broad statement of the process check out the articles if your intrested im sure theyll do a much better job of explaining the process Quote
+mcallahan Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 check out my blog post about the $44 HOB phosphate reactor I found. It works great as it dropped my phosphates from .25 to 0 in 12 hrs. I swear my corals already look more colorful. Quote
