I'm pretty busy right now but an informative project for might be quizzing the authors of the different build threads not on "How" to so something but "Why" and how to know "When" to do or not to do something. Compiling that into a single build thread would be interesting.

One word of recommendation is that if you do get someone to mentor make sure they are successful running both the specific type and size of tanks you're looking to run.

There are just a ton of ways to successfully start and manage a tank and the routine and success rate is going to drastically vary depending on the specific setup. A zeovit based SPS tank isn't the same animal as a softie / LPS low or no-maintenance style tank, so getting recommendations for exactly what you're trying to accomplish is hugely important.

My broadest suggestions for all types of tanks would be stock fish less than you want, feed as little as you can while making sure your fish are sufficiently fed and healthy, and don't make changes or fish and equipment additions without a purpose and the ability to monitor and test to see exactly how they affect the tank.

^^^This is incredibly good advice. For example, I've had more success running picos as virtually self-sustained systems with awesome growth and color for over a decade now, but I look at some of the larger systems people run with all sorts of electrical components and gadgets and tech wizardry and my eyes just go wide with total confusion.
