Dan H Posted December 10, 2015 Share Posted December 10, 2015 Apparently this cruise ship was given permission to drop anchor on the reef off Grand Cayman. I didn't know that ships have to drop a lot of anchor to stay put... Then the boat will drift a full circle around the anchor every 24 hours. So if this was at 50ft and the boat had to drop about 250-300 feet of chain, then about 8 acres of reef are going to be destroyed. [emoji32] [emoji26] [emoji20](I stole the math off reddit so it's possibly wrong and I'm too lazy to check)Meg and I went diving off Grand Cayman last year and thinking about this level of destruction simply makes me feel ill.
