Bluemoon
how DIY are you? If you want to leave the lid on there aren't too many options http://www.rapidled.com/oceanic-biocube-29-dimmable-retrofit-kit/ If you take the lid off, the options literally and figuratively open up to a lot of hanging LEDs on the market right now. If you open to taking the lid off and want to save some cash check out eBay, if you want high end, hit up Victoly on here, he just shut down a bc29 and has a lot of equipment for sale. Bluemoon
The manual dimmable 165w Chinese light is a great light for growth. My brothers been running one suspended about 12" over his 20g tall for almost 9 months now and it's really impressive for the pricepoint. The only problem I see with your plan is that a lot of those leds have 90 degrees optics. so, setting it right on top of the lid could fry some stuff. 12_egg_omelette
You could always hit up Dave from nano box and ask for his retrofit.
