FarmerTy
I have been blessed with really awesome in-laws who got me a gift card to BRS for my birthday. I've been trying to decide between the auto skimmer neck cleaner or picking up the leak detection module for the Apex. Please help me make a decision! nvrEnuf
Who carries your insurance and have you had a conversation about your tank with your agent? As a realtor I am betting you network a lot; who's your agent?
nvrEnuf
In one of my past careers I was an insurance restoration specialist, I fully undersatnd the peace of mind a leak module would offer and hands down say go that way. On the other hand I KNOW my insurance agent WELL and KNOW I am covered in event of leak. Both the tank and the house. So, considering you've told me how lazy you are...the neck cleaner isn't a bad idea if you're so well covered by insurance that you'd have enough $$$ upgrade if your tank emptied onto the floor! I once was called to consult on a claim where a 250 gallon mixed reef crashed due to the carpets being cleaned with an amonia based cleaning chem; claimant was asking for $50K but didn't have the proper riders; so, despite me legitimizing the claim, he was maxed and $20K!!! carefull out there folks! FarmerTy
I am indeed the laziest of reefers, which is why I'm working on turning my last two weekly tasks (emptying/cleaning the skimmer topping off my ato container) into monthly tasks. My insurance agent happens to be one of my best friends. I'll have to have another conversation with him about my tank. Thanks for the heads up! FarmerTy
It's starting to be a runaway train here for the skimmer cleaner. No love for safety here?
jolt
What kind of problems would you want to detect with the leak detector?
Reburn
Imo. A leak detector is invaluable hopefully never. Plus with the amount you work at home I suspect you would detect a small leak quickly. A neck cleaner appeals more to the lazy side of you and I believe you would see a better value from it.
FarmerTy
What kind of problems would you want to detect with the leak detector?Just two sensors on the floor and in my stand that will alert me through the Apex if water is detected. That way I can be notified immediately if there is a leak and the Apex will turn off the appropriate equipment to hopefully stall any issues until I can address them. JCAB
The problem I have with my Apex sensor in the stand is that it's too humid in there, so it goes off constantly (even though it's not actually touching water) . I've had to place it outside of the stand. I haven't yet tried to find a solution, so I don't know if there's a way to calibrate it to make it less sensitive. Just a heads up before you purchase one! I think I would go for the skimmer cleaner also. Unless you have some reason to think a malfunction of some equipment could cause the leak. Not sure if its worth it just to tell if the tank sprang a leak
FarmerTy
Alright, the jury is out. Skimmer neck cleaner it is!
Cameronbherring
I have the leak detection but I'm not always home and it was a big reason to get my apex. My parents did want 120 gallons all over the floor. It is a saving factor. But I have no clue what the skimmer neck does. IMO
