Hamp
Setting up a new tank. On a budget, so may start up with dead rock, unless I can find a great deal on live rock. Thanks.

jestep
Do you mean dry, as in never in an aquarium, or dead, as in was previously in an aquarium but was removed? I would definitely go dry rock if you're on a budget. You can save a ton and you don't risk major problems with hitchhikers. Previously used rock can be risky. If it was poorly treated you may end up with it leaching PO4 for a long time after it is added to a tank.
Hamp
I was thinking about 40lbs wet. Dont know how that would translate to dry. Enough for a 40 breeder.
nvrEnuf
Being that porosity is the driving factor in the ability of live rock to "filter" , I would say "wet" rock would weigh virtually the same as dry.
