ceastman
What would be a good reason to go with lab grade probes vs the standard grade probes for the apex? Better accuracy, precision, need less calibrating, etc.?
victoly
The lab grade is built differently which lasts in a longer life span (up to double if you remove and clean it frequently) and it reacts more rapidly to change. The first reason justifies considering the lab grade, the second is only important if you have something on your tank that can rapidly change your pH (calcium reactor or kalk dosing).
SHALAKO
I ordered some regular grade pH meters from China, took 5-6 weeks to arrive, but they calibrated and hold their calibrations just fine and only cost $8.65 each!!!!
Wade
How do you clean the probes and how often should you?
jestep
I clean mine possibly yearly with fresh water and a paper towel... Ph is just such a dynamic variable, I wouldn't spend any more than you need to unless you're running something that is reliant on a PH measurement, CA reactor, FW dosing, etc. Temp is far more important to me, but I'm not sure if there's a lab grade temp probe. Wade
What would you use to calibrate a temp probe? I've got a chiller on mine and it's temp reading is in line with the tank probe. Would I need a pinpoint meter to calibrate it?
victoly
IME the temp probes don't need calibration. it's going to be hard to find a more accurate/reliable temp sensor than the ones provided with the apex.
