ceastman
Are there any places in there area that do bulk ro/di water for that initial tank setup? I will need about 400 gallons when I am ready to start my tank up.
George Monnat Jr
I've bought bulk RODI from Fishy Business and DI from RCA. They both have pickups with large tanks. I think RCA's is cheaper and they're an ARC sponsor but there's no RO. Even without the RO, their water checks out really well.
jestep
You may want to look at the cost of purchasing a Ro/DI unit yourself. If you're going to be mixing a ton of water each month for this tank, not to mention the 400 to start with, it's probably safe to assume that getting your own unit will be cheaper in the long run. ceastman
I have an ro/di unit but was concerned about the amount of water I would go through to make the initial 400 gallons of pure water.
victoly
It will be cheaper for you to do it than to purchase it and have it delivered. Id just run your output line to your tank and let her rip over a 3-4 day period. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
(Bio)³
+1 to the above. Maybe run the waste line to the washing machine if you do clothes during the filling period or give the foundation water? ceastman
Is there an estimate how much waste water I will generate for 400g of "pure" water? I have a 5 stage ro/di filter with new media for each stage.
jestep
Is it a BRS 5 stage, spectrapure, or another? Really depends on the model. Some of the high end ones with a booster pump are 1:1. Most are more like 1:3 or 1:4 with the larger number being the wastewater. Need to fill a swimming pool anytime soon?

If it's an ethical concern (i.e., I don't want to waste the water if i do it myself) someone out there is "wasting" it to produce your water anyway. At least if you do it, there are constructive uses that you can control.
Planeden
not sure when you are starting, but be careful about the wastewater metering average. in round rock and austin it is novemeber - feb/mar. it calculates the maximum wastewater bill through the next year.

They loan the tank for free and have a pump they loaned me but you would still need to make five to six trips.
ceastman
I am using an older version - 5 stage from http://www.aquasafecanada.com/store/aquarium-ro-di-filter-systems the unused filters should still be good correct? They have been in my garage for the last 8 years.
victoly
unused filters should be fine, as long as they were sealed. just monitor the TDS of your water coming out.
