Makena95GT
I'm in a pretty desperate search for one to be either long-term loaned to me.. Or, an ever better thing would be if I could "loan" one, with the most sincere promise that I will pay up the MOMENT that I come into money again. Right now I just have the little swing-arm thing.. And today it was giving me high reading then low. Then high low medium. Everywhere. All without even changing anything in the water. I apologize if it seems like I'm taking you guys for granted. I'm just in a bit of a bad spot right now and I'd never be able to forgive myself if my Clownfish died because of my mistakes.
sifuentes31
Do you rinse the Hydrometer with water after use? Sometimes salt crystals will form on the arm and give you a false reading, also air bubbles on the arm will raise the arm too high. Just bang it on a solid surface to relase those bubbles. Though not a perfect instrument it will get you in the ball park..
(Bio)³
Take your hydrometer and give it a vinegar bath then go to a lfs and get them to check sg with their refract. Mark yours based on theirs and use it. Just make sure to fresh water wash after each use.

Makena95GT
Do you rinse the Hydrometer with water after use? Sometimes salt crystals will form on the arm and give you a false reading, also air bubbles on the arm will raise the arm too high. Just bang it on a solid surface to relase those bubbles. Though not a perfect instrument it will get you in the ball park.. I gave it a good rinse today and was sure to knock out all air bubbles. Gave me a consistent 1.023 reading every time I tried. Thank you so much for your help! Take your hydrometer and give it a vinegar bath then go to a lfs and get them to check sg with their refract. Mark yours based on theirs and use it. Just make sure to fresh water wash after each use. I'll do that tomorrow. I appreciate the help I use the Instant Ocean hydrometer and it hasn't failed me. I'll probably toss a few bucks into this one for now. Thanks
