Gig 'em @ NDstructible
I have a mag drive pump that I used to have on my 135 cube a few years ago that I have transferred to my current 50 gallon build, but I have noticed that after the 3-4ish years that it has been in storage it is much louder than I remember it being in my 135. It's connected to pvc and it's suspended above the bottom of the sump so it's not rattling against the glass or anything. I opened the pump up and the propeller was clean and nothing broken or misplaced. I don't know if I should try connecting it to some flex hose or what to reduce the noise, but I don't think I want this noise to persist any longer. Does anyone have any ideas? joshman1204
Mine was making a lot of noise so I disassembled it and soaked it in vinegar and water for a few hours and then cleaned it thoroughly. It seemed to quieten it down a lot but mag drives are still just loud pumps compared to some of the other options out there like eheim.
Timfish
You might look closely at the shaft and especially the opening in the rotor the shaft goes through. Both will wear over time and become out of round letting the rotor wobble.
+Mlaw
Can you tell where the noise is coming from? Is it the pump itself or is the PVC rattling against something?
Gig 'em @ NDstructible
No, it is touching the side of the sump at the top, but I wrapped it in cloth and even when I pull it away from the side it makes noise. When it's out of the water and the face is off of the propeller housing it doesn't make ANY noise...
