Jumpers

I thought at first that having a rimless tank would be great until now. I have lost 3-5 fish in the past two weeks.. 3 for sure, I found them on the ground. 2 are "missing", but they've been missing for weeks and I have cats. So, it's not a surprise that if they did jump they may never be found. This is really becoming frustrating and I'm not sure what to do. I've been contemplating on building a screen, but really dont want too. Anyone else have this problem?

Fish lost:

2 green chromis

1 6 line wrasse

1 scooter blenny

I've had one fish jump out if my normal 75 with no lid but none out of my rimless.

I also keep my rock work low because I've heard the rocks near the top might encourage jumping due to small fish run to the tips of the reef in the wild to escape. How much this plays a role I don't know...

I feel your pain after recently losing my mystery wrasse. The culprit is my new speckled hawk, aggressive little guy. I've seen him literally chase two fish out of the tank.

If you don't like screens you can always go the route of a glass top with rubber standoffs to allow air to get through on the sides.

What's wrong with using transparent screen? It really doesn't reduce light in the aquarium and IMO is worth protecting those $100 fish

On a rimless tank the transparent screen often interferes with the "look" that the people bought the rimless for.

To me keeping the fish alive is more important than the aesthetic, but I understand the goal.

What about taking some clear plastic mesh http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=66432 and cutting it to fit over the top. Then use some clear clips http://www.bagsunlimited.com/p-1800-closure-clips-for-27-x-41-mylar-sleeves-clear-plastic.aspx or http://dgyukai.en.alibaba.com/product/665105602-214794428/Clear_plastic_clip.html to keep it taunt.

Should have minimal impact on your aesthetic, but keeps everyone where they are supposed to be.
