(Bio)³
I just got a sand sifting cucumber off of luckyheo. He is just going to town in the new tank, sifting all day and spitting out little tubes of sand in his wake. The hermits then follow behind him and break down the tubes as if this is a game they always played. Perhaps a cuke would work for you?
crendon2003
What about a sand sifting starfish or conch?
Aqua-Dome
Maybe another gold head sleeper as these guys do best in pairs...
Bannerfish
We tried a yellow cucumber once...not sure what happened to him but it looks like he might have injured itself while climbing in the rocks. One of these days I'll try another, he was cool! Right now we have a fighting conch but I wouldn't really call him a sand sifter, he only sweeps the surface of the sand for junk and algae to eat, and sometimes I see him with his trunk reaching up into the rocks to eat algae. He's really cute, I think I like him better than the cucumber
+scubasteve92
+1 on the sand sifting starfish, mine is a champ! Constantly cleaning.
medi
I love the sand sifting starfish. The only problem is they eat a lot, and if you don't have a good steady supply of nastiness they will eventually starve. My tank never stayed dirty enough to support one so I eventually stopped trying after losing two. I really liked my tiger tail cucumbers. They always did a great job of keeping my sand bed nice and clean, but it is one of those things that you put in your tank and may never see it again. I had two in the 100, and had thought both had died until I shut the tank down and found them hiding in the rockwork.

AquaJohn
so the yellow sleeper will not mind another in the tank if not added at the same time ? I hate the thought of adding a smaller one again and see him get pounded like the diamond gobie did
Aqua-Dome
Its possible they won't get along but I've had 90% success at pairing same species sleepers, even if the first one was already established.
