jaggedfire
I have a rather neat looking red algae growing in my tank as I try to cut down my phosphates. I have had issues confirming ID on this. The tips are iridescent under actinic and it layers up. I was wondering if this would be a good candidate for macro in the fuge? Thanks
subsea
Why take it out of the display? It could be juvenille Dragons Breath. Check out the last link H. Floresia, they call it Dragon's Tongue. http://live-plants.com/redsealettuce.htm http://marineplantbook.com/marinebookhalyfloridana.htm http://marineplantbook.com/marinebookhalyfloresia.htm
jaggedfire
Thanks for the reply subsea. I dont plan to take it out right now if at all (depending on how invasive). I like seeing what pops up, but was wanting to see if anyone else had experience with it. I was just wanting to head off anything bad if it were. The links dont look like this though. What I have is more 'puffy' with bright rounded tips that glow.
subsea
In general, red macro when pushed with light will show orange/yellow//transluciant or white on the tips with fast growth. Also, in many cases, the shape/color will change with conditions such as high current and light.
subsea
I looked at the pictures of Red Nemastoma on Reef Central. What you have is not as red and the growing clusters are much different. It looks more like Halmenia to me. In any case, this is why I like uncured live rock. No telling what is going to pop up.
