When I embraced skimerless reefkeeping, I also embraced multiple (biodiversity) nutriant pathways as a way to cycle nutriants and feed the reef.

One of my favorite pasttimes with my 5 year old grandchild is to observe refugium critters with our illuminating magnifying glasses. I find as many reputable sources for refresing my sandbed critters. I particularly like rubble rock for bringing in many Critic Zone animals. To get detailes of individual detrivore species is a dimension to this hobby that I find enjoyable.

I have put in a lot of investment at the bottom of the food chain. I have been asked to consider selling sandbed detrivore kits. In the case of the two sites above, there is much labor in bagging individual detrivores to sell as a kit. I would consider selling live sand with numerous critters combining for biodiversity.

Depending on how things get structured, I might call "live sand" freebies, "Lainaippe". But then again, lainaippe could be something else, it depends on the situation.

La bonne temps roulee.

I really enjoy all the random critters in reef tanks (except when they turn out to be evil ones!) I was one of those kids that would filp over all the rocks in the garden to see what bugs I could discover. biggrin.png

I recently made an order from IPSF, which seemed to result in some strange white tubular sponges showing up. I'm always up for even more diversity though. I'd definitely be interested in purchasing some of your live sand sometime. smile.png

On one of my first orders from IndoPacific SeaFarm, my wife laughed when I got out the fashlight and went from black to white backgrounds to count the specks in the water.

I have been considering banner ideas for my upcoming plunge into "Venture Capitalism". Since I am of Cajun descent, I will go with one of my calling cards being "Laingnappe". Something extra, like the thirteenth doughnut in a Bakers Dozen. Laingnappe can be a link of "Best Stop" boudain or some Cajun Pate (hog head cheese). Lainappe can be some macro with pods and worms or some live sand full of worms and tunicates.

I like laingnappe, both giving and receiving.

I love seeing the creatures, it's one big reason I've always preferred live rock over dry rock even with the possibilities of pests. I still don't know what some of the stuff i have is, they're impossible to photograph or even describe.

The links you shared were great! I'll be interested if you ever sell any "critter packs".

George Rodrigue. Only a Cajun can sell paintings of Blue Dogs for top dollar. I remember awhile back at an art gallery in Carmel, Ca. an original oil goes for $50k. Maybe a loup-garou is hidden in that refugium amongst the other critters. Bonne chasse

Michael, I had forgot about Rodrigue's "Blue Dog" line. Talking about loup-garou, I heard the phrase for the first time, a little over one year ago, on a CD that a friend, Bruce Newman, made one month before Katrina hit New Orleans. Anyway, the storyline goes that Paul Prudomme was in line for sainthood "Till he burnt the fish". He redeems himself when he cuts off the tail of the loup-garou and "he throws the tail into the roux". Anyway, thank you for the memory.

My favorite all time detrivore and janitor. The first time that I saw them, I flattered myslf with the thought that my serpent stars had reproduced. These little guys rarely exceeded quarter size. They were translucant and after eating brightly colored flake food, you could see the food passing into the body chamber.

I have a special place to multiply these guys. It is a modified Cryptic Zone filtration that is the first chamber of my refugium. Over the years, it has made its own mud and is crawling with pods and things. I am going to get a refugium kits with emphasis on micro-stars.

When reviewing the particulars of detrivores available from IPSF, I noted that half reproduce bypassing the planktonic stage and go with direct developement (live beares). That is good for those of us that would like multiplying populations.
