Bannerfish

Recommended Posts

Another name for Bannerfish is Butterflyfish. They will graze on soft coral. So do my drawf angels.

The Schooling Bannerfish, Heniochus diphreutes is considered reef safe but not so with Heniochus acuminatus.

Thanks! So far he has not nipped at anything, although sometimes he likes to nibble on my fire shrimps white spots, and sometimes he likes to play with my hermits. One or two of them disappeared i think, idk if he ate then or not. I've asked some different ppl what they thought he would nip at (they all knew he was the acuminatus, not the diphertes) and each person have me a different answer. Some say soft corals, others say sps, others say clams or lps, some said anything with the small polyps....i didn't know what to believe so I'm just experimenting with different corals to find out what he will nip at and what he won't. Do far he completely leaves my toadstool and mushrooms alone. I have some Kenya trees and a green nepthia I'm gonna try next...One time i saw a pic of this guys huge full blown reef tank with a big group of "schooling bannerfish", but it didn't specify which ssp they were.

I think it might help that i feed him really well, it's fun to feed him lol.

If the fish is feed well, no one polyp suffers. That is my game plan with the drawf angels in my tank. Initially I put them in there to replace herbivores (Tangs) so that I could grow some decorative macros in my display tank. Most reef fish graze and nibble all day. If they have beaucoup choices, then it is like some one prunning your ornamental garden.

I too like feeding the fish. The refugium and sand bed critters all benefit from heavy feedings.

Lol yea i have a buffet for him. Right now we got frozen krill squid and pe mysis, a few different flake foods, nls pellets and ocean nutrition pellets,, and died sea weed. He's the only one likes the sea weed so he gets it all to himself. Every time i run out of a food i try to get a different variety that will be good for him. He eats anything readily and he's always up for a snack :D

If you want some fresh seaweed for him, I have some lagniappe for you, if you don't mind driving this far south.

I grow seaweed and plan on opening for business July 1, 2012. Prior to that date, I give sample of lagniappe.

La bonne temps roulee,

Patrick
