polarbear
What do you think about using a Quiet One 4000 on my 29 gallon biocube? Is it to much? It gets close to 1000 GPH at 0 head room and I have about 3 feet from the refugium to the tank?
+mcallahan
Umm...no A 100gph pump would be fine. Less flow through a refugium is better

ITs a common misperception that you need lots of flow through your sump. More flow means faster moving water which means louder noises (from the water crashing) and it means less time your skimmer and media reactor have to work on the water. Most people think (I used to be one of them) 10x times your tank volume/hr through the sump is good. I'm of the opinion that 1x or 1/2x your tank volume/hour through the sump is good. polarbear
never thought about it that way. i always assumed that it helped with flow in the tank. i guess thats why they make circulation fans for the inside. Enigma13
If you want a quiet, reliable pump that is more in line with your flow needs look at an Eheim 1250 (maybe a 1048 would work with only 3' of head pressure, but a 1250 would be safest bet). polarbear
Ya I found out yesterday that it's the protien skimmer pump that's making all of the noise. I'm going to have to switch it out with another pump I have. Thanks for all of the help
