MadGriff
Hey guys, our tank is a few months old now (58g RR) and we are starting to see some bubble algae pop up. Right now theres are about 4 little bubbles spread around the tank in random areas. We added some emerald crabs to hopefully eat it. I have read to pull the rock out of the water and pull the algae bubble off without bursting it. Unfortunately this isnt possible on every rock. So my question to yall is: what could be causing the algae, what methods have you used to prevent and or erradicate it? Thanks!
stoneroller
Bubble algae if left unattended will spread and could lead to problems. It might be an indication of excess nutrients. How many fish do you have and how often do you feed? Emerald crabs can control it -- eradicate? Probably never. The crabs have worked for me recently and now I worry if they are going to have enough of the green stuff to eat -- they will either die or start snacking on something else. Yikes. Gonzobob
As stoneroller said it's often one of those things that seems to just hang around. That being said the methods I've seen work best to manage: Manual removal (careful not to break the bubbles) Water changes Manage nutrients
