Timfish
The oldest fish, a Marine Betta, I have in my tanks died this weekend. I was talking with my client and he remembers his dad setting up the system in '92 (he inherited it 3 years ago) and the betta was one of the first fish to go in. I've been taking care of it since '95. Now I have a 3 way tie with a Yellow, Purple and Sailfin Tang that were purchased in '94 (maybe '93). Derek
I love marine bettas. That is a shame. Sorry to hear that.
Elizzy
I had to look up marine betta! (Initially, I thought somehow those little freshwater guys could get acclimated!) Anyhow, that's such a long time -- you're obviously doing something RIGHT!!
Robb in Austin
Take some solace in the fact that it probably lived longer in your care vs in the wild. Still doesn't make it any easier. Sorry for your loss.

Timfish
I had to look up marine betta! (Initially, I thought somehow those little freshwater guys could get acclimated!) Anyhow, that's such a long time -- you're obviously doing something RIGHT!! Consistant maintenance and a LOT OF LUCK! I counted it up and the system has been moved 5 times, upgraded from a 90 to 120, at least 2 pump failures (one caused by an electrician twice putting 220 VAC on the 110 VAC circut the tank was using during a remodel, fried the power strips and the light fixtures also), several power outages one lasting at least a day during one of the ice storms we occasionally get, several office staff conscientiously overfeeding the tank and a couple of ich outbreaks. Two years ago we lost a Yellow Tang that was added before '94 and about 8 months ago a Convict Blenny we think went in about the same time as the Marine Betta when the tank was set up in '92. Robb & Myvirtue, yeah, they probably did live a lot longer than the wild life expectancy is but from what I've seen with the big aquariums at least the Tang could have had a lot longer life although there is no way of knowing how old they were when when purchased. And you do get attached to somebody who's hung around so long.
