stoneroller
What did you get Mike? That's a steal of a deal!
mikedelgado
thanks Kevin. I picked up an atb 1050a.breaking in still (overflowing followed by not skimming). I hope it is as steady as the deltec was after it settles in
+Hydro
Hey Mike, I had the same problem with my Deltec skimmer but got it figured out. My skimmer requires lots of waterflow (600 GPH) and until I got it there it was a total PITA. I tried for months to set it properly and it was impossible. The slightest adjustments made a huge difference, and it overflowed many times. It would seem to work fine for days and then overflow. As soon as I got the flow up it has been very easy to set and hasn't overflowed on me since.
mikedelgado
thanks. My deltec was rock solid (never overflowed) I had it gravity fed from my return. Its my new atb thats acting all crazy.I think it is just a matter of breaking it in. I just got home and after skimming all day(day 3 ) it seems to have settled in and has a nice foam head with about an inch of tea colored juice in the cup.I,m hoping that it doesnt overflow anymore and hopefully the skimmate gets darker like the deltec used to produce. DanReefMan
Hi mike..... I was wondering why you chose this brand of skimmer. Why didn't you stay with deltec? I'm looking to upgrade my skimmer but not sure what brand to go with. I have heard good things about Deltec but didn't know if it is worth the price tag. Also Tunze was another brand recommend to me. How old is your deltec?
mikedelgado
Hi mike..... I was wondering why you chose this brand of skimmer. Why didn't you stay with deltec? I'm looking to upgrade my skimmer but not sure what brand to go with. I have heard good things about Deltec but didn't know if it is worth the price tag. Also Tunze was another brand recommend to me. How old is your deltec? I chose the atb brand after reading what seemed like a million reviews on various skimmers. The atb skimmers seemed to have favorable reviews everywhere I looked so I am giving one a try. The 851 is rated for 222 us gallons heavily stocked.I have a 215 gal tank(heavily stocked) with about 60 gal in the sump. So I kinda figured I might have been pushing the limits of the 851 so I am giving the atb 1050a a test drive.Deltec has discontinued the lineup the 851 was in.Their new line is the sc series and they start at $1300 .They look promising, their previous lineup were great skimmers but for $400 less and a bunch of great reviews I went for the atb this time.So far so good. I cant really say its pulling out any more goo than my deltec did(too early) but it sure is fun playing with new reef stuff o ya , I have had it 2-3 years and I bought it new so I am not sure of its age.Are they worth it? probably not.Its just plastic.
