Dena
Originally built for a Solana, but I sold the Solana and now I need to sell the light. I've attached some photos of when my husband was building it and one of it on the tank. We spent at least $600 on this and would like to get about $300. Frame is aluminum square tubing and has holes for height adjustment. LED's are aluminum apoxy'd to the heat sink which is approx. 8" x 12". Originally the fixture was mounted to the back of the tank stand we built for the Solana Bulbs: There are 12 white 3.7W cree LED's and 12 royal blue 3.7W cree LED's. There are also two white 3.7W cree LED's for the refugium lighting and 1 royal blue 3.7W cree LED for a moonlight. The moonlight, refugium light and main lighting have separate power sources which enable you to customize timing. A piece of plexi glass protects the bulbs from any splashing. There are six buck pucks to drive the LED's. Each has an adjustable potentiometer so that you can adjust the output on the lights. I have had all sorts of corals under this light, clams and RBTA's. It would be great on another small tank like a Solana, Biocube, etc.. Email with any questions.
Dena
There are also two fans on top to help with cooling. We just rested them on top of the heat sink and never got around to doing anything fancy with them.
Chad and Belinda
This light has, by far, the greatest actinic lighting I have ever seen hands down. Corals pop under them better than any vho or T-5 will deliver. Mix them with the daylight leds and you have one heck of a fixture. Well worth the price. Dena
Thanks guys. Everyone that has seen this up and running at the house was loving the colors it was putting out.
Dena
Here is an example of growth I had on my rainbow monti. This was about 3mths. My purple bonsai loves it to. I moved the initial 1" piece which left a little on the rock. In about 6mths I had two mini colonies.
Dena
Here's my RBTA that got mauled by the power head. This after the first mauling, a month later it got it again and had about 6 little nubs. This healed and grew under this light. I don't spot feed very often either. chrisfowler99
Ok...for my own curiosity...do you know if you used Cree Cool White or Neutral White LEDs? (not looking to buy...thinking about building)

Chad and Belinda
I borrowed the light for a while and actually have it at my house if anyone wants to look at it. As fellow reefer said...it looked as if you were looking at corals while on LSD...LOL
chrisfowler99
I'd like to do LED...but the cost for the 200ish LEDs that I'd need to buy to build the rig have given me pause. Of course...I've just saved a lot of money by switching to Tate...
Dena
Ah see...you can use that money on your LED. I remember my husband telling someone to check the nano reef forums. Apparently they do a lot of group buys and you may be able to get the bulbs cheaper that way. When he built ours they weren't doing one so we paid full price also. BTW...he's still not home from work yet.
Tavio
I was at Chads place and got to see their zoas under the blue LEDs. I was genuenly impressed. Let me tell you I have NEVER seen corals florece the way I have under this light. It takes a lot to impress me now a days. Working where I do I get to see a lot of things come and go and get bored w/ the see things day after day. Seing this I gained some motivation........ Teresa
Hey I'm interested - especially since I ruined my 70w metal halide trying to install my own fan . I've got a 12gal nanocube so I'm wondering about light output - will this be too much? I need a light today since I'm pretty sure mine has been out for a couple days before I even noticed and corals are not at all happy. lmk Teresa
Dena
Theresa, it should be fine. You can switch the whites and blues off independently so you can keep the blues on for a couple hours, add the whites for a couple hours, turn off whites, etc. Just slowly adjust the corals to the lights brightness so they don't all freak out. If you want to take the hood off you can also mount it up higher which will help...then slowly lower it.
