Timfish
Was wondering what brands ya'al were using and what's your favorite for those who've used different brands?
joshman1204
I am using a precision marine redline 150. It works well and is very well built. A little noisy but not to bad.
+mcallahan
I've used: - EuroReef - I had 2...probably should have stuck with what I had. The company almost went under and now has been bought and re-branded. - Reef Octopus: Sicce pump was loud! They are now using newer Sicce pumps that are supposively better. - Coralife: The coralife Super skimmer I used was a POS. Yes they are cheap, but it didn't work. Don't get one. - Vertex: Very quiet. Skimmed well. Another skimmer I should have probably kept. - SWC: I like the design and ease of use with my SWC. Everything apart with thumb screws and it has a compact footprint. I'd buy another one for sure.
lexiemc
Tunze Nano 9002. 2nd gen. small, Internal, quiet. just plug & dial in. Very effective very quiet. We had a Remora HOB for the first tank but it was fussy to get dialed in and set up. Do not recommend.

NonSequitur
I have a Euro-Reef that seemed to work really well until the pump seized up. Now I'm running a Red Sea Berlin skimmer that pulls out even more gunk than the ER did.

medi
SWC Xtreme Mini Cone - (This is my current skimmer) I love it. It is almost completely silent and it is super easy to maintain. Plus, it pulls out some really nasty stuff. PM Bullet 2 - I hated this skimmer. All of those silly thumbscrews made maintenance a real PITA. So much that I got too lazy to clean it because of all the work it took. Plus, it skimmed great as long as you could keep it perfectly adjusted; which was an everyday job. Definitely don't recommend it.
offroadodge
I too am using the PM Redline 150 and love every bit of it. As far as the noise, I just found this out this morning...I had it installed at 9"s of water--OOPPPSSSS--its been this way for over a year working fine but if you put it at the correct water height of 7"s it amazingly isnt loud at all. Seems to make better skimmate also, time will tell. I am using a precision marine redline 150. It works well and is very well built. A little noisy but not to bad. RotaryGeek
Im using a CSS 65. I wouldn't call it crap, cuz it does skim some dark thick nasty crap out, but i upgraded from a Skilter and that was total garbage. Worse bit of money i have ever put into my tank. Im about to upgrade to a (probably) SWC 160 cone at tax time so then ill have a "real" skimmer. But all in all, this CSS 65 has done a good job, and i only paid $40 for it. fishypets
I've used Euro Reef, Deltec and Bubbleking. The E.R. was okay for the money, I didn't use the Deltec long enough to draw a conclusion but the Bubble King is a beast. Plus it's sexy looking. Kkiel02
Ive used reef octopus for pretty much all my tanks. Cant beat the price and my extreme 250 pulls out tons of gunk. The new reef octopus that will be out in september which replace the extreme look beastly. If I end up needing a bigger skimmer for the 360 that is what I am planning on getting. caferacermike
Bummer to hear about ER, this was news to me. I have only ran ER. I've upgraded from an RS 80, RS135, to a CS12-5 with 4 Eheim 1262 recirculating pumps.
pbnj
Euro-Reef is now re-branded under the name "Reef Dynamics". Jim Stime of "LA Fishguys" on YouTube did a 7-part interview with Jeff Macare of Reef Dynamics.....extremely informative.

Gonzobob
Ok, my experience: Tunze: I’ve used the following / results 9002 Have 3, they work great very quiet and efficient 9210 works well but positioning is an issue 9410 quiet and efficient, my favorite! Coralife 64 POS, until I got an ATO, dialed in worked pretty well but quite noisy AquaC Remora Pro medium quiet and efficient but took much longer to dial in than the tunzes
Jessie
I've used a coralife pro and with some minor mods it worked okay. Didn't like the size or hassel with unscrewing the collection cup for cleaning. I recently purchaed a tunze 9002 recommended by Mark and it works awesome! It's small, quite and no micro bubbles. Definately worth the extra $50 or so.
Mike M.
With my 120 gallon display, I am running a Tunze 9440 and it is DEAD SILENT and effcient with electricity. The two pumps on it use 45W apiece. I had a Precision Marine Bullet years ago and the venturi whistled like a song bird. I can't say enough good things about Tunze equipment for users here in Austin. Product support couldn't be more convenient with the Tunze USA headquarters right off Braker. Mike

Yes you'll pay for it, and you should b/c it is good stuff. Ditto on their product support. They are always knowledgeable and willing to help. I've also run a SWC 160 cone for the past couple of months and it is awesome. Very quiet, efficient and skims great. Very easy to clean too
+Hydro
I have the deltec twin chamber and it's a good skimmer but not worth the $2,000 price tag. Lucky for me I bought it for wholesale or I would be pretty dissapointed with what I spent. I had alot of trouble getting it dialed in, it overflowed on my several times and ran my sump out of water....which is bad for me b/c I have frags in there. I finally realized that I didn't have enough water flowing through it (near 1000 GPM min) and after I boosted the water flow adjusting it was WAY easier. Now it isn't near as sensitive and I have overflowed it in months. With low water flow adjustments on it were extremely sensititive but now that isn't the case. I wouldn't call it quiet my any means! On a positive note I can say that it is small compared to other skimmers for the same size tank which Iike, I think that is because of the twin chambers. It works perfectly now and I'm happy with it....but I also think that I would have been happy with a skimmer that cost half that.
chrisfowler99
Really like the SWC 160 Cone on my 75. For my upgrade I'm looking at getting a larger SWC or possibly a Super Reef Octopus.
Will
I like my Vertex IN 100 on my 40br, skims great, very quite. The BM NAC6 i have on my moms 90 softie tank also works very well.
