+Hydro
Rhizotrochus typus Pretty cool, a cross between an anemone, clam, and a coral! Can eat small fish but so far only mysid shrimp in my tank. They are non-photosynethetic, have a skelton and grow a little foot to attach themselves. Has anyone had one of these before? I'm curious b/c it will completely draw up and puff out a couple of times a day, wasn't sure if that is normal. When I say draw up I mean I can see the skelton inside, and then go to full extension like in the pic.

Gonzobob
Yup, I've had mine for a couple months now and see the same behavior. Also more likely to be out when the lights are out. Mine will come out during any tank feeding regardless of lights.
caferacermike
I've got one that is similar. It has a peanut worm that lives under it and drags it all around the tank. More like a Dendro I guess. The worm is supposed to be there. Forget the name right now.
mikedelgado
that guy is awsome!! Do they do well in captivity long term?
+cyrus
where did you get it?
+Hydro
I got it at auctionreef.com a few weeks ago. The care seems pretty easy, doesn't need light needs at least a weekly feeding of mysid. I'm not sure if they live long in capativity, I've read that some people didn't have very good success wtih them. There isn't that much info. I've noticed that when it is drawn up I can squirt some mysid on it and it puffs up pretty quickly. How often do you feed? Can you overfeed it do you think? mFrame
I doubt if you can overfeed it. If it is similar to a nem, dendro, or duncan it will just let go of the food if it isn't something it really wants. Cool critter!
Gonzobob
I spot feed mine mysis 2 - 3 times a week.
caferacermike
Heteropsammia cochlea, that's the one I got. As I said, very similar in appearance. Prolly completely different. I'd bet that feeding and care are about the same. This is the site where the pic came from. walking dendro
+Hydro
Do you have a pic of it opended up? Mine isn't much larger than than, probably 2.5" across x 1" wide but is shaped more like an oval.
caferacermike
There are some on the link I left behind to the other site. I've been looking around at your coral online, they seem to be related but I think yours is way coolah. But then again maybe you think if yours could walk around on its own, that would be way coolah. +cyrus
There are articles out there about them being from japan and coral from japan = illegal http://glassbox-design.com/2010/5-reasons-not-to-buy-japanese-corals/ Thoughts?
mikedelgado
I was eyeing some on aqua sd's website last night. Pretty pricey but I still wants! I think I will watch this thread for awhile to see how this guy does before I try one
+Hydro
There are articles out there about them being from japan and coral from japan = illegal http://glassbox-desi...apanese-corals/ Thoughts? I have no idea where it came from, there was no country of origin listed. I doubt that it was from Japan though, it wasn't that expensive. Seems like if it had to be smuggled that it would cost a small fortune.
