ReefNewb
So I want to move my dragon goby to my 29 gal from my 55. Seeing as he always goes under the liverock and I don't want to take it all out, anyone got a good way to catch him?
+Lamont
If he eats prepared food then you can catch him by building a fish trap. All you need is a 20oz bottle and some super glue. You can go to youtube and learn how to make it. Put some food in the trap then sprinkle a little in front of the trap. He will eat the food on the outside of the trap and then he should swim into the trap to get the other food. This method works for me. If that doesn't work have fun re-stacking your rock! The_Colonel
Make a fish trap. Simple one: cut the top off a 20oz soda bottle, invert the top and glue it back into place with a little superglue. Fill it up with tank water, put some food in it, then place the trap near the liverock where he lives. He will go in for the food, and not be able to get out. If you have enough room, a 2-liter bottle will also work.

offroadodge
the bottle will work for some fish, my 6line wouldnt have anything to do with the bottle when i tried so i borrowed the Mannings fish trap and within a week had him caught.
ReefNewb
i feed them mysis and flake, what kind of stuff can i put in there that wont float out?
The_Colonel
Put the Mysis in the bottle anyway, it will float up to the top of the bottle, but the Goby will know its in there. Chances are even with no food, he is going to check it out anyway...
chrisfowler99
I caught mine with a net and patience. My diamond goby always went to "hide" in the same spot. But came out to look for food. So I held the net just over the hole for a bit without moving, then dropped in food. When it came out for food I quickly lowered the net over the hole and made a quick movement outside the tank. It darted right into the net..
ReefNewb
If I could only get my damsels to not play with the bottle, it would stay in place and the goby woul have time to be interested in the brine shrimp filled bottle. Lol
caferacermike
Drain the water into a tub, grab fish, transfer fish, replace water from tub to tank. I have to do that this weekend to nab a pesky zoa eatin damsel.
