Zarathustra2
Just a sad post. I just lost two colonies of candy-canes to brown jelly. These were amazingly healthy colonies that i have had for a long time. One of them I purchased large and was at around 25 heads of lime green goodness. The other one I grew from a 2 head frag up to 10-12 heads. I had noticed the signs on one of them this weekend and if I had taken out the big colony then I might have been able to save the other. Does anyone have any experiences to share with Brown Jelly? Any good articles that help with avoiding it?
Derek
I lost a torch colony with 15+ heads. I was only able to save three of the heads.
Derek
Good prevention is making sure that you have adequate flow. The infection starts if the coral has an injury and there is insufficient flow to move detritus and other waste from it. Kind of like an infected cut... if you wash it off and keep it clean, it can get better.

Zarathustra2
I actually thought about that about 15 minutes after I pulled it out of my tank. I had a extremely healthy colony one day. Next day the colony didn't look happy. Day after that about half of the heads were gone and the remaining heads had a brown jelly like slime over them. I'm pretty sure this is a bacteria or some such as it happened to two colonies that were 4 feet apart or so.
