  1. Can you check on the status of (it says preorder): Green & White Pipe Organ Also, anyone interested in splitting a Vivid Picks Zoanthid Collection? It seems to be a nice way to get a variety of zoas, splitting a 10 piece would average $13 per frag or a bit more for smaller packs. I figure that anyone splitting would take turns picking a frag until gone.
  2. Imagine how broke we'd be if they were in Austin....

  10. New in unopened box, bought before we moved into our new house last fall and I never found a place for it. I'd rather have the cash than the box taking up space. 11. I started with Instant Ocean mix, but now use Reef Crystals. RC has a lot of extras that corals need and use. I have a 29g as well and mix up 5 gallons at a time in a home depot bucket. General consensus seems to be you're better off letting it sit for a few days after mixing, but if you have to use it immediately just make sure it is fully dissolved and clear before adding. The other thing to keep in mind is not to use tap water for mixing. If you're not ready to buy an Reverse Osmosis unit to make your own, you can get 5 gallon water jugs at walmart for $7 and fill up either there or at your local fish store for around .25/gal.

  16. Saw John's tank yesterday, all of his corals are amazing. Nice guy, great corals, no brainer!
  17. Yes, I got a GBTA on the 3rd order. Due to the delay in shipping, it looked pretty rough on arrival and never recovered after withering for almost two weeks. Vivid stood by their guarantee and I received a full credit on the 4th order (thanks Mark for coordinating the credit). That said, I don't think I would buy a BTA this way again. There are several members here whose throw clones regularly. I picked up one of these from Princer almost a month ago and can tell you that the size/health were drastically superior to the shipped one. I think Mark also has a friend whose BTA is clone crazy, she normally sells hers to RCA and think she took 5-10 last time she went. I was there the other day and they still had a few for $25. Much better to buy locally if thereis no real price savings and you increase survival rate by avoiding shipping. My clowns are loving their new GBTA.
  18. I'm in for at least $50, prob closer to $100.
  19. Crossing my fingers for you as well, keep us updated.
  20. Definitely an interesting idea, I like the golf tees. That definitely allows for more semi-permanent placing, but I'd still like to be able to produce frags without having to pull the full piece of live rock out. Guess it depends on whether it is encrusting or not.
  21. Most smaller rock I try to drill cracks. With a custom shape and scoring on it to break later I can control the size of frags and make them more "standard". With the silicon skirt I could then more easily attach it to pieces of large rock later on, and hopefully the silicon would be much more flexible than a hard base.
  22. From what I've read they're great fish, but will probably go after your shrimp. They're also noted to be very messy eaters, so you'd really have to watch your water quality if you get one. Are you running a skimmer in your nano? Basically this link says no, but you can always take your chances if you think it's worth the risk. Several forums have posts of people saying they had no problems. Others say it's just a matter of time. Puffer info
  23. Like everyone I'm interesting in growing some of my corals specifically for fragging, which I assume most people do in a frag tank. Given that I don't have a frag tank I'm looking at ways to grow things in my main tank and have them be accessible to frag later. Almost every frag I have is on a plug or disk. If I glue or epoxy them to live rock it will be a pain to remove them later so I've had the following ideas and would love to hear everyone's experience or input. The first idea is to make some custom rock, like small mounds in interesting shapes (3" circles or less) with a hole in the center that fits a plug or disk flush with the rest of the surface. This should make it easy for encrusting corals to spread. I'd also thought of molding this on top of a piece of eggcrate so that the bottom would be scored and easy to break into fixed sizes when it is time to frag (just using the eggcrate to create a grid on it, it would be removed before totally dry). My other idea is to do basically the same thing but with silicon. Take a rock or something i like the shape of, put a piece of saran wrap over it, and smear the whole surface with silicon. Pour crushed coral or arg over it and let it dry. Poke a hole in it and then I would have a pliable frag "skirt" that I could set a plug in and place it on the sand bed or over live rock. Once the coral grows over the skirt it would be much easier to cut or remove. Any speculation on these ideas?
