  1. Some some lucky duck is about to get a great deal.

We are asking $250 for the entire lot of stuff below. Or you can make an offer on any particular bit you want.

We will accept items in trade, either for the whole lot or for just particular bits.

We are looking for some audio gear in particular. For example, we want another NAD Amplifier, a Dac Magic or equivalent, another pair of PSB Imagine B's, 32" - 37" 1080p LCD Television, nice audio rack, speaker stands, etc.

Or a nice little micro-reef. (Micro- as in 10-14 gallons or so!)

In the event that two people want the whole lot, the first one to arrive with cash takes it, or in the event of two people arriving here *before* cash has changed hands, whomever offers the most takes it. We will be fair, but we have three goals. One - to get me to work less on fewer projects; Two- to upgrade our audio gear; and Three- to perhaps make a bit of beer money while giving someone else a really good deal.

Here's the list. Everything is working unless otherwise noted.

    (1) HP RX2600 Dual Process Itanium server (rack mount, but sits fine on shelf.)

    12 gigabytes of RAM

    2X73gb disk

    DVD

    Gigabit Ethernet

    Management Card w/100mb ethernet

    High Performance SCSI adapter

    VGA Video

    Management CArd

Loaded with Open-VMS 8.3.11* and Suse Linux

    (1) Classic Macintosh SE computer, 40 mb hard drive, keyboard, mouse. Works great. :)

    (1) Pair Advent Prodigy speakers (woofers need to be refoamed - easy to do, just takes patience and about $10, Kits available on E-Bay.)

  2. Thanks Mike, it is a nice tank.

Folks, I am really pressed for time, and asked Mark to help me with this. We will get details to you on the tank and contents probably next weekend.

    Thanks

    -Paul

medi. . . .i have seen this tank while it was cycling.it is very nice.it is reef ready and had a pendant light over it when i was there.again it looked very nice.

  3. So this is officially for sale today. Lets say $625 takes everything. I'll try to post pictures of the tank tonight. Pickup in Georgetown, Texas.

    -Paul

Due to some unexpected family circumstances, I just am not going to be able to pay attention to our tank like I really should, and I don't want to let it crash or something.

This is a 65g tank, with approximately 100 pounds of nice encrusted live rock in it, 80 pounds or so of nice oolitic sand, snails, a couple damsels, a nice tomato clown,

and a 20 gallon wet/dry used as a sump, a vertex skimmer, and a quiet one pump. Actually, nice setup - all told, I spent well over $1500 putting it together.

It will be ready to sell next week folks, so e-mail me with any offers.

Oh, we don't really want to part it out, but if someone wants to broker it, we will consider.

    -Paul

  4. Sorry to hear. I hope is all ok.

    Dave-

Everything is, or will be, okay - just takes some time and we are going to have to figure out some physical challenges for my daughter.

Somehow, the tank, and joyful as it has been, seems to be taking a big back seat in my priorities.

  6. Nope- the tank is still there. Was going to take it to storage tomorrow- Youc an have anything that Dena didn't ask for.

My cell is 512-630-5759. Just call me in the morning - after 9am if possible.

    -Paul

Did pbnj get the 55g tank and stand? I can come and get it today if not. I know Dena is getting the lights for the 20g, is that tank still available, and if so, how much would you like for it? I'm trying to set up a frag tank.

  7. Yes, you can certainly have the lights. And I will hold 'em for you if necessary. I just got a deal on a climate controlled storage unit. (*sigh*)

Or I will probably be around work this week, depsite being on "vacation" - that is around where I35 and 183 intersect. Just let me know.

I can't PM you for some reason.

    -Paul

I can do $20 for the light that goes on the $20 gallon if someone closer could pick it up for me and I can meet next weekend to get it? Can anyone help me out? Pretty please? I promise I won't stick ya with it LOL. I just live too far to make that trip ASAP.

    Dena

  8. Sure - as long as you will take at least the stand too. I would prefer it if you took all the rest of the stuff as well...

    Don't you need a QT?

I need space more than money right now.

    -Paul

So does that mean you'll take $20 for just the 55g tank?

I need one for a sump....I can be there pretty quickly.

  9. It turns out I need to make some more room quickly.

What that means is- name your own price - any price that has a $20 bill in it that is.

First person here gets it- sorry, no reserve - I really have to clean up some space

    and I mean right now!

    (1) 20 Gallon Long, empty, just cleaned.

    (1) 15-20 pounds of nice sand, no longer live, but nice stuff. Special grade.

    (1) Dual PC light for the 20 Gallon tank with/moonlights

    (1) 55 Gallon tank

    (1) 55 Gallon tank stand

    (1) Set of homemade lights for the 55 gallon tank

  10. The two that are quoted as having a taste for zoa eating nudibranches are Copperband Butterflys (Chelmon rostratus) and Labroides dimidiatus (a cleaner wrasse.)

The Copperband is notoriously difficult to keep because it is a terribly picky eater. In fact, it's favorite diet might be your zoas!

That particular wrasse (L. dimidiatus) should be avoided, as it is (I think) illegal to collect them, and they have only a limited population on their native reefs. Removing them from the reefs seems to have an derogatory effect on the fish populations all out of proportion to what one might expect.

After looking them up, I am kind of sorry I brought them up at all. Sorry.

    -Paul

    Paul,

That would be awesome if you could. I haven't stocked my tank with fish yet, but one thing I am working into my plan is natural predators of things I don't want in my tank.

    Thanks,

    John

  11. Sure looks like one - but from your picture I'm not sure it has enough arms. Aren't they usually identified by a cluster of four/five arms just below their head? It will take on the color of your zoas if it is.

Some wrasses (Halichoeres) and some butterfly fish (Chaetodon) will eat 'em up as fast as they breed, but of course, the fishes themselves might pose a problem for your reef. I can look up the specific breeds if you wish.

  12. We have a Current USA Sundial Pendant (with an unused hanging kit) we could let go for about $230. It has a 150w Metal Halide (currently 10K) and two 32w PC 50/50 Actinics in it.) It's about 5 weeks old and would be a good fit for your tank I think, unless your tank has a wide center brace. :/ That is why we are replacing it.

    -Paul

As the title says, I'm looking to buy a metal halide light for my 32 gallon 20" deep reef tank. If you have one for sale, or know of a good inexpensive/less expensive place to get one, let me know. Also, what kind should I get if I want to do corals that require high intensity lighting? Thanks!
  13. If its cyano that's A good deal because I though it was Dinoflagelates. I thought cyano was slimey looking like reddish snought.

this stuff is dark brown wet hair looking.

Cyanobacteria has more different forms than are imaginable. Ever notice a pinkish discoloration in your sinks or shower? One guess...

I just am getting rid of some of it that started in our new 65g tank. We expected it, but it is still annoying to deal with. And like you, it showed up in a area of at least moderate flow. It is feeding on light, nitrate, and phosphates in the water. Have to lower all three to get rid of it for good.

Even then, it will probably come back to visit sooner or later.

  14. Coralife is basically junk- especially with that much of a swing and with ambient being cooler. I picked up one of those and wound up ripping it apart and decoding the ROM to figure out what it was doing. There were several programming faults I found, not the least of which is that the algorithm they use to smooth temperature readings is coded incorrectly. That is probably what is manifesting for you. Dratted poor quality offshore coding.

I trashed the thing. You can get more accurate readings from one of those LED things you paste on the side of the tank.

    -Paul

I picked up a coralife digital temperature gauge last week and the readings seem a little erratic. This morning it ready 79.0 degrees, then 2 minutes later it read 79.9 degrees. No lights were on and the window right next to the tank was open letting in the cold morning air.

The temp probe is in the overflow about half way down.

Does anyone else who has a digital temp gauge see such rapid fluctuations?

  15. Marine Depot is easier about doing group orders to get free shipping, but - word or warning - while I order from them quite frequently, they seem to handle thier inventory roughly. A skimmer I just bought from them came with some of the internal styrofoam packing pulverized. Other items have came with evidence of similar rough treatment.

ThatFishPlace has really good shipping deals, and packs stuff really well - but their prices are slightly higher too. Same for DrsFoster&Smith.

    -Paul

Somebody looked into it earlier...we had to spend like $5k+ a year to get something like a $25 gift certificate for a drawing...
  16. Oh yeah- just drill some holes in the return line - I suggest at least two, snails like to cover 'em up. :)

I actually have mine drilled in PVC above the water line, so it is continually squirting just a little water into the tank.

But you can drill just below the water line as well. Either way works, is nearly foolproof, and avoids water all over the

    place.

Use a good drill bit, and be sure not to drill on the top of the line. The bottom or sides work just great.

  17. Also, that isn't all that low, especially if the tank is warm. Don't panic. ^_^

I noticed today when I checked my Salinity, that it had dropped significantly from 1.025 to 1.022-1.023. Any good way to get it up? What some water (1/2g-1g) with a high salinity and pouring that into the display?

Also, if anyone some premade saltwater or if anyone has some extra salt laying around I'd love to get it from you.

    Thanks!

    -Brooks

  18. Congrats! Post some pics when you get it going.

It's been up for about 12 hours. The tank was just coming out of a Diatom bloom, and it pulled a good bunch of that out of the tank.

The foam cylinder in the picture is there for scale, it is 2" across. Sweet. :)

  19. Great news! You guys are very good cat parents!

    -Paul

First time in about 10 days.

Try to imagine that if it were you.

Lots of good news tonight. I searched the room we are keeping him in and I found this huge ball of fur. He passed that through as poop, not a regurgitated hairball. The consensus thus far is that this is what was compacted in his intestines/bowels and may have caused all of the problems. It is a sound idea as many vets kept trying to figure out what/if something was stuck inside him or if the diseases hit first and then constricted him due to bloating. If this giant hairball was impacting in his gullet, then certainly it could have caused enough blockage for him not to be able to poop. Then would come the vomiting as well as all of these secondary infections and his jaundice.

I force fed him when I got home today and about 20 minutes later he went poop in his box. Hence the above post. If you just thought I was being dumb you might not understand that basically if he would not go poo again he was certainly going to die. We've spent 10 days trying to get him to go and this afternoon was the first time.

He then went on to his food bowl and took in quite a lot of food on his own. No vomiting tonight.

If all of the pieces of the puzzle fit together then this means that he has passed the blockage, he can now eat on his own, his liver can be fed and will cleanse itself. The jaundice will take about 6 weeks to clear up. We must inject saline into him every day during this time to help flush him of all of his poisons. If this all works together then the vet thinks he will live. We were told to put him down about a dozen times by 4 different vets. He kept showing a willingness to struggle and was not showing any signs of pain so we let him do his own thing.

Not through the woods yet but we think we can at least see a sliver of daylight.
