Just for closure.

I took my "Conch" which some of you met at the meeting back to aqua-tek. Indeed the associate i spoke with confirmed that around the same time i had purchased it they had gotten in a "bad batch" of what they thought were conchies but were in actuality some species of predatory whelk.

so the carnivorous conch, the man-eating mullosk, the wicked whelk has been replaced with some turbos. all is well.

Do you still have the overflow box?

Anyone racing up to RCA for this?

Just curious ... what type of conch is it?

Im not sure what species of conch it is. i got it from aqua-tek. its body is a very dark blue/black covered in white speckles, looks alot like a starry sky.

I did see one of the hermits messing with the snails when i put them in, but he is very small.

I am sure that the conch was eating one of the astreas, the only thing i will never know is if it was dead when it did so.

I added 25 snails to my tank yesterday. before that the only clean up crew was 3 hermits and a conch.

A couple hours after the lights were out i spot lit my tank to see how the snails were adjusting and if they were grazing.

The conch had one of the Astreas against the glass and was enveloping its shell. the conch seemed to be constricting itself to suck the snail out.

This morning 5 of the 25 snails are simple empty shells lying on the sand.

is it normal for conchs to act that way?!

how many gph should the pump be rated for if its running on a 55g? or is it just a matter of how much flow i want?

it will be running on a 55g, the melevsreef guy is running a mag5 for his 30g. Is anyone familiar with this setup that can recomend a pump choice for me?

I just picked up one of Pham's 30G tanks and figured I would check here before buying new.

If anyone has a filter and/or heater rated for 30g sitting around I would be interested in making a purchase and taking it off your hands.

Im planning on trying to wrestle some acrylic into a hob overflow sometime after the holidays and wondered if anyone had plans that they have used succesfully that they could recomend.

I have all the neccesary tools in my fathers shop so all I need to do is get some experience and guidance and see what i can turn out.

Hey all! I kind of dropped of the map here for a bit, i was waiting for my tank to do some maturing so not much has been going on in the water world. i took a week long trip to big bend and it was amazing! 3 inches of snow in the chisos mountains!

So now that i have a new lighting system i no longer have a hood for my tank. im losing alot of water through evaporation and was wondering if someone knew of a good material that wouldnt block out the light that i could use to construct a cover. I also was wondering if it was good for the tank to have that evaporation as long as i top off with fresh water. i also plan on building a hood to go over the lighting system entirely.

So my friends pair of convict cichlids just had about 100 babies out of the blue!

He got them as a pair from amazonia, anyone know what we can do to help preserve there little lives?
