So I got a job in another state starting in June and we are going to keep my car and my husband's work van but have to sell his commuter car because it would cost us alot to ship it and my job is only providing us with some of the relocation costs. We put it up on Craigslist just last night. It has 168,000 miles and runs like a champ. It has had regular maintenance and oil changes. He just replaced the battery and brakes. It has never been smoked in and has an extremely clean exterior and interior. There are a few minor blemishes on the outside just from normal wear and tear. The dark black tint was professionally put on just last summer and was worth every penny in this Texas heat. The AC runs cold and the 5 speed transmission is smooth. He is available to show it tomorrow (Sunday) if anyone is interested and will also be available throughout the rest of the week as well. You can call David at

Just to give everyone an update: My name is Angela and I'm a senior at the University of Texas majoring in marine and freshwater science. I had a reef tank for a little while and turned it over to another fellow reefer before I began my current final semester due to the intensity of my program. I have met a lot of nice people here that are crazy enthusiastic about reef keeping which is really cool to someone who also loves the hobby and is generally interested in the science behind it all. So anyways my hard work is finally paying off, and I will be moving up to the Pacific Northwest in June to start my new job as a Marine Mollusc Taxonomist. Pretty cool huh? So basically I will get a decent salary to sit in a lab and identify bivalves and gastropods from all over the world. It may not be my 'dream job' but being fresh out of college, I think it is a nice stepping stone in my career.

Well I am about to jump into my last semester at UT taking 7 courses including 2 labs and doing research credit while also applying for jobs so that when I graduate in May, I will have a secure future. This tank was a lot of fun but I was taking care of it by myself without my husbands help and it was just becoming an extra task that I am ready to empty off of my already full plate. It was kind of a last minute decision and I would like to have it gone by the start of next semester which is mid-january so that I don't have to worry about it anymore. This hobby has not seen the last of me yet. However, next time, I will go big.

Also available that I completely forgot about was:
2 headed blasto wellsi $15
medium devils finger leather with 3 tie-dyed mushrooms attached $15 SOLD
I also have a free mandarin dragonet that is very hungry and my minimal pod population cannot support his appetite so I would like to give him to a good home with an abundance of pods to ensure his survival
I will be home from now until 1:45 bc I have a dentists appt closeby- and then I will be home after my appointment if anybody wants to come check things out.
I am about to reply to everyone's pm

I'm totally guilty... but thank goodness my husband is so oblivious to the things that occur in the fish tank, he never notices when a new coral pops up mysteriously

One ric, yellow palys, and leather (picture to come later) still available. Thanks for your interest!

brain and 1 ric sold
-I have a medium sized - what I believe is devils glove or some sort of leather- It started in my tank with smooth texture and emerald green in color but then turned tan in color and started growing polyps- (will upload pic tomorrow, camera needs charging) - maybe someone can explain the transformation phenomena that has occurred
$15

And if any of you think any of my prices are unfair for anything that Im selling now or in the future, please let me know, Im not the best at pricing things, I just try to look at what people have priced their stuff at in the past. I want to be fair, make friends, and not appear as if I'm a jerk

Biocube> I have no idea. I just tried to google eyelash coral and nothing came up so I couldnt tell you the street name of them. But they are pretty common in the aquarium trade. Just not sure of the name people give them.

Well Im looking to sell a few things to help make a small dent in the cost of the new lights that I want.
I have two small rainbow ric mushrooms - each on their own rock - 10$ each
Purple and Green Brain coral - $40
I also have some fairy dust palys and I could frag a few if anyone is interested in that as well
Pickup saturday from 1-6pm - or I will be in north central Austin having my birthday lunch with a girlfriend around noon if you just want to meet me wherever we decide to go and I'll bring the frag with me- I understand not wanting to drive up north to Cedar Park- I hate it too.
-I will update later if there is anything else that Im willing to part with but these are just off the top of my head.

Timfish> The more I learn, the more I realize how much I dont know... seems to be the story of my academic career at UT. I remember learning about lights and Kelvin a few years back in my first Physics course, but it has since all escaped me. So basically what you're saying is that I can go with one shade of white and it will not compromise anything to my knowledge, OR I could do a mixture of whites, and it may or may not benefit the corals depending on what light specificities that they require. Seems like I have a decision to make. I will probably get on the phone or email the rapidled folks and have them guide me or educate me a little better before I make a call on the colors just to be sure.
Since I plan on going dimmable, and only using 20, out of the 24 leds, it will allow me the option to play around with whatever color configuration so I definitely dont think I can go wrong but I just want to make sure I do this right and to my best knowledge (which is still currently lacking).
Thanks!
-
It is already spoken for. Thanks though! I never caught the little booger last weekend. Will make another attempt soon.
-
Rgoodwill> I have my last final of this semester in 4 weeks which is most likely when I will plan on purchasing the new lights. If I get them now, it will just distract me from my studies.
Slowwrx137> cool thanks, I will definitely check it out.
Jason> That is good to know. But the RapidLed website for the solderless product I am looking at states that "Currently only royal blue, cool white and neutral white colors are available" so I am limited to these colors alone.
Can you tell me the big difference between neutral white and cool white? I read one article about a few people's rants but curious as to what other information I am missing. Is it important to have all three? Do the different whites offer some significant difference that benefit the corals or is it for asthetic purposes that you would want to use the two different ones together along with the higher ratio of Royal blues.
-
That RapidLed plug and play might be the winner. Now, with the LEDs do most people just stick with a 1:1 ratio of blues and whites? I'd prefer a more blue-ish look but not sure if the LEDs 1:1 would naturally produce something like that. .
BiocubeD> when you get yours set up, and if you wouldnt mind, I might have to come check it out to see the look of your ratio and see if it is the kind of hue that I would like. Are you going for the dimmable version?
Does RapidLed ship pretty quickly?
Thanks everyone

A part of me wishes that my husband could share the hobby with me... but then he would know how much all the corals I bring home cost
-
Rob> I am slightly weary of ebay's no-brand led's just from the couple reef threads I have researched but I will continue to do more research> Thanks!
Biocube> That would be cool, let me know. I am willing to sacrifice my canopy and go open top but if I could keep the canopy, that would be awesome.
Rgoodwill> I don't even trust my husband enough (in regards to fishkeeping) to top off the water everyday

Pottery Barn solid wood Espresso finish Writing Desk $180
in Non-Reef Related Buy/Sell
Posted
This desk has an awesome amount of surface area with the Dimensions being 5 by 2 and a half feet PLUS an additional pull out slab of wood that is perfect for anyone who likes to spread out their mess like me! I will be moving soon and will no longer have need for a desk once I graduate college next month. Plus it takes up a good amount of room. It has two side drawers, and a middle lap drawer that comes out as a solid surface for a keyboard. Excuse the cords and mess under the desk! We were also able to fit a regularly sized file cabinet underneath it just to give you an idea of the height and what you can do with it. This is a beautiful and sleek desk with MINOR scratches from normal wear and tear that do not compromise the beauty or look of the desk. Let me know if you have any questions!
