Sand
in Reef Keeping
I have black sand..but it was hard to find the actually black sand that doesn't have the metallic stuff in it.. ill try to see where I got it.
Otherwise the color is your preference.
Sand shouldn't be an issue if you have critters that move it (nassarius, pistol shrimp, sand sifting stars, etc) but I'm not gonna start the sand vs crushed coral argument.

I have a guy who wants to sell his volitan. He says it is pretty big and he wants to get it out of his tank because its too small for it. I'm sorry I don't have pics (ill try to get one). He's asking 15 to 20$
Text me at 504 338 8658 if interested

I feed my duncan (it eats anything)..as well as candycanes and a blasto.
They seem to be happier with the feedings.

They are free to a good home.

Only one I heard is the pyramid which jamesl said above...but even liveaquaria says they might nip soft corals if they are underfed.
I think someone on here has kept a copperband with corals
-
D'oh... gha stinks.. you don't have coral yet right? You can still cut down your lights then

Hey
I was wondering if there were any big mma fans on here?
I don't have many friends here in Austin and would love to meet some people who enjoy mma and would wanna meet up for PPV get-togethers.
(anyone could also discuss anything mma related on here too if they'd like)

Is there any reason you don't want the hermit crab?
Also, that live rock in the pic doesn't look that bad.. was that the rock you thought was "dead?"

I think what the point was is most stores will not accept SW fish returns....
Right, I Know. I just want to know why that is? What makes a FW fish return OK (at some places) but not a SW fish return?
Generally it is explained as the cost and difficulty in acclimating SW fish and critters. It requires much more expertise than FW acclimation, and you can quickly kill several expensive fish and the store is stuck footing the bill. This is one of the things that makes my Aquadome fish club membership worthwhile, they have a 50% of purchase price on SW purchases for I think 14 days.
Sure they're expensive and require special acclimation. (or can).. but footing the bill? I bet they go back to their breeders and say "this fish didn't make it" and receive compensation...
I wish..
Hey I tried to respond to your pm but couldn't from my phone..

Kmmthree I apologize for your experience.
I'm glad you were able to get an anem that you originally must have wanted.
I will give you a call today or tomorrow regarding the matter. Thanks

The way we have it worded is, "There is no gurantee for saltwater fish or other marine life. These animals have unique requirements, and are very delicate. They are not recommended for the beginner aquarist."

Welcome to ARC! Lovely little Biocube. I'm just starting out myself (live rock is all that's in my tank presently) so I'm looking forward to growing with the group.
I shop now and then at the RR Petco, but knowing you're over in the new Pflugerville location I'll be sure to stop in.
Awesome!
It was the "Manager" type guy over in the fish section at the R.R Petco that turned me on to ARC. I don't remember his name but he was really nice and patient with me when I was buying a FW setup for my daughter. Nice guy. He told me SW isn't "that much more difficult" and it kind of stuck with me and here I am having a go at it with another tank.
hmm how long ago? That's great to hear though.
I bought the FW tank the first week of April. The guy showed me some pics of his tank and I think he had a Skull type trinket in there. Though that may have been his FW tank? Like I said, really nice guy.
Oh ok, I know who that was.. yeah he's a cool guy for sure. Knows a lot about salt too.

Hello Everyone,
I've heard so many great things about this forum so I finally decided to join.
My name is Patrick and I've been in Austin for a little over 2 years. I am pretty new to the hobby, and got into it because I've worked at a pet retail store and this area has much more saltwater customers than I was used to. I got frustrated not being able to answer people's questions and figured the only way to be able to learn more and be able to offer better advice would be to start a tank of my own.
ARC member WesleyB also helped me get into the hobby as well.
I've met a few of y'all informally at work (I'm the assistant store manager at the Pflugerville Petco, previously at Round Rock).
Look forward to being on the forums!
I currently have a Biocube 14. I'll post a couple of pics. (Tank is a little cluttered at the moment)
