The fact that he is eating something is a great step. I have seen so many PBTs waste away and starve. I would recommend that you continue to feed him krill if that is all he will eat. I would thaw out the krill, rinse it in a net under some tap water. Then soak it in a small bowl with some Brightwell Aquatics food soaks. They make a garlic soak, an Omega III fatty acid soak, and a vitamin soak. All 3 might cost you $40-50, but that is still cheaper than another PBT. Make you r mixture and put it in the fridge for a day or so.

Another option is to gut open the krill and stuff it with Nori seaweed. Krill alone is pretty nutritionally void, esp. for a fish that needs a lot of algae in its diet.

I am seriously impressed with the whole build. Take it from someone who does reef tanks for a living, you have serious talent! This aquarium is a great saltwater interpretation of an Amano tank. I can't wait to see how you place your corals and how this tank grows in. If i had to offer any criticism, I think that eventually a black background will offer better contrast to the corals. But that is just a personal preference thing. Looks like the tank is off to a great start, and be sure to let us know if we can help you with anything.

Looks great, I like the open scape too. That candy cane is beautiful, so is the acan. How has the acan growth been so far? Any little baby polyps at the base yet?

This aquarium has been tough for us to get a good FULL TANK SHOT for our website. There is a lot of sunlight coming in from the east and the tank uses radium 20,000K bulbs, so an accurate color representation has been hard to achieve. I am hope some good photographers show up so we can get some great shots.

I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Come on James, I've been to your house, I know you have room for one more tank. And this thing is right up your alley.

Could you give a little information? Does it come with a pump? What is the maximum tank size? blah blah...PARAMETERS!??

This skimmer has a foot print of 10x 17. It is exactly 66" tall. It uses a beckett injector that originally came from Precision marine. I have successfully run this skimmer on a 150g live rock curing vat with a Mag 18. Although the $100 is for the skimmer only, i can include a Mag 24 in great condition for an extra $75.

I would imagine this skimmer could handle anywhere from a 100-500 gallon tank. It would work especially well in one of the many "garage aquaculture" setups that I have seen lately.

All of the salts will work just fine for almost any hobbiest. I have used IO for years. Hawaiian Marine's Weigants salt for about a year with great results but I was never WOWed by it. I used Oceanic's salt for 2 years and must say that it is very cost effective and consistant in its values. Although its values do leave some to be desired ( KH 8, Ca 390-400).

I have been a TM nazi for about a year and it is a good salt, but expensive.

These high-end salts cost extra money because they have extra trace elements and Mg. in them. And TM doesn't really have that much higher Mg than the others, so is it worth it? (rhetorical?)

But the real question is; Does every hobbiest really NEED these "better" salts. I mean to say, is your tank running so perfectly and so close to the pinnacle of peak health and coral growth that you require these extra elements. I think most of us would answer no.

Tropic marin boasts that it has all 70 trace metals in its salt. And obviously some amount of all of these is needed, but why should we pay and extra $10-15 for the extra 5ppm of Boron or manganese if 1ppm is sufficient?

Salt has become kind of a status thing amongst many of the advanced reefers. I mean some people are using Tm pro that aren't even running a calcium reactor.

My message for newer reefers, or non SPS keepers is; use what is available and cost effective, there is nothing magic in the more expensive ones.

Serpent and brittle stars may inadvertently move detritus around in their search of better foods like left over mysis shrimp and other fish foods.

White sand stars constantly hunt for microfauna like copepods and amphipod eggs in the sand. They only accidentally move detritus around or deeper into the sand bed while moving around.

Linkia starfish eat primarily bacterial films off of well established live rock.

I think that many hobbiest's that observe these organisms "eating" detritus are not looking closely enough. Most of these organism just move detritus around and help suspend it in the water column (which is a good thing). But as for actually eating it, I don't think this is the case. Nassarius snails eat detritus, but then they have to poop too.

Increasing your flow and adding even a cheap hang on the back filter with some fine floss will help your issue. Manual removal via a standard freshwater gravel siphon over the top 1/2" of your substrate works well too. For those of you needing a longer tube, regal plastics on metric blvd. sell the exact perfect size to extend the "python" gravel siphons.

Lastly, don't waste your money on a prizm or prizm pro regardless of their gallon rating. i would way rather have one euro reef RS80 rated for 80 gallons than 10 prizms rated at 100g each.

I am going to assume that the H20 to go place is the one on the way to Sun City. Maybe Judefish can chime in on how crappy her tanks looked when she used water from there. We checked the total dissolved solids on the water from that store and it was around 100 ppm !!!! Which is not much better than tap water. I would buy an RO unit or stock up with water from one of the fish stores when you are in town. Trust me.

Thats def. Cotton candy, do not let it get into the main tank at all cost. Even though yellow tangs and some turbos eat it.
