  1. ... like chlorine?? We took a water sample to LFS and it tested fine for TDS/Nitrate/etc... what could cause the chlorine smell? Filters in RODI are almost 6 months old, we fill about 50 gallons every two weeks. Im going to use Prime in my jugs for now, but worried about chlorine actually being in my water.

  2. Ive def noticed a bit more aggression from the male Tomato since my pair started spawning. He kicks my Foxface's booty if he comes too close to his anemone......and the foxface has about 3" on the tomato. Comical to watch the foxface dart and "tuck his tail" when hes getting charged...

I guess Im going to either trade the O's in at RCA or sell them here. Haven't decided yet but will soon.

  3. Just dosed the Dr. Tims Waste Away yesterday. Started with the half-dose and will dose full strength next Monday. My algae problem that I previously posted about had cleared up completely, so I assume it was just diatoms. The sand bed is starting to brown up again, so I hope this stuff works. Ill update later. :)

  4. I have a mated pair of Tomato clowns in my 180g DT and I have 2 juvenile Ocellaris Clowns that have outgrown my Biocube8. Ive been researching the web on housing different clowns in one tank and what Ive read is that they need plenty of tank room as to occupy their own space. Is a 180 big enough to house 2 pair? Ive pretty much decided that its a no-go on having both pair in my tank, but just want someone to verify thats its not possible... I hate to give up my baby O's, Ive had them since they were tiny. I guess Im hoping there is some way to safely introduce them into the 180 without totally irking the Tomatoes.

I have two RBTA's in the 180 and the Tomatoes have each claimed one. I have one small RBTA in the Bio8 that one Oclown hosts and would move that over to the opposite side of 180.

The Tomato clowns are large, the male is 3" and the female is 4". The two O's are about 2" long each.

If its not possible, I will have to sell them thumbsdown.gif OR get a larger Nano shifty.gif

  5. My PB Tang has had very mild ich (but ich not the less) since I got it. He eats like a champ, doesnt seem stressed but still has ich. Im getting my QT tank ready now to treat all my fish. If you want a PB, look for one that is not skinny, eats at the LFS, doesnt seem stressed, and doesnt show signs of disease. Then TREAT IT in QT before adding it to your tank, no exceptions. It will develop ich, they are VERY prone.

  6. I think what you have is a Trochus, as was mentioned above. I believe thats what mine are, and since we got them at the same place, thats probably the case. My experiences with the Dome have all been good. They are very knowledgeable and helpful and I personally dont believe they would ever sell you a creature that would damage your corals, especially since they sold you the zoas in the same purchase as the snails. I once bought a patch of palys from one of the LFS... I acclimated them to my DT tank water, then treated them with Coral rx, then put them in the DT. They looked fine, fully opening within an hour of placing them in my tank. The next morning however, they were completely melting away and I lost the entire colony in 48 hours. It happens sometimes. Dont know why.

  7. Having a major garage sale tomorrow and I have aquarium parts I need to move out of my garage.

Coralife Aqualight 150w HQI Metal Halide Ballast - 2 prong plug.

    Hydor 400w heater

    2 Locklines with flow adapters

    2 Hydrometers.

Black and white sand (2 five gallon buckets)

Eshopps HOB overflow (needs some reinforcement)

Red Sea HOB skimmer (was used on a 90g tank)

Euroreef Skimmer (large 250g) Needs pump and part for adjustment elbow.

    2 small submersible power heads.

Unused tub of Kent Kalkwasser mix (450g size)

    Various PVC plumbing parts, elbows

Emperor 400 filter (needs filter cartridge and new wheels, which wouldve needed to be changed out regardless)

You can come out tomorrow to 139 Hoot Owl Ln, Leander, or PM me offers on the stuff. Im terrible at pricing items.

  8. VWMike.... that is the exact episode that made me want to vomit, and also when I decided that I would no longer watch the show. It was annoying from the get-go, but that was the fly on the poo for me. Here I am at home getting on to my hubs if the TV is thumping too loudly near the tank... and they have people actually skateboarding on theirs?! Ridiculous.

  9. Actually yes. Sorry for the late reply, my life has been a bit upside down lately. I am now leaning towards this just being a heavy diatom bloom. The sand is still a bit brown in places but NOWHERE near what it was. The rocks are clearing up too. I did add carbon, phosban, and Purigen to my system. I also cut my light cycle by 3 hours and added a much larger cleanup crew of hermits, snails, an urchin, and a conch. Its still not perfect, but its getting better. I should have in the mail right now Dr. Tim's Waste Away that Mark Callahan recommended for Cyano and just general cleaning. Going to start that tomorrow and I will report how it works after a few days. I didnt do anything to my KH or PH, but I still think slowly increasing those numbers would be a benefit. Fingers still crossed but Im pretty sure this is nothing serious after all and just my tank doing its natural thing while maturing.

Thanks for all the help and advice!

  10. I have the Coralife Turbo Twist and I like it. I dont know how well it controls parasites, but when I first put it on my 90g my Regal Tangs ich was GONE in 3 days. Maybe it was coincidence. I dont know. I now have the same one on my 180, its still size appropriate, and my Powder Blue has had mild ich for weeks. I used to run it 24/7 though and I now only run it 8 hours a day. So who knows.....
