  1. Hmm. Well that all makes a lot of sense. Installing a duct in my garage seems a little daunting because of the brink veneer though. I guess I'm going to have to get moved in before I start planning this out. I was hoping to only have to set it up once, but there are just too many variables. Not to mention planning the rest of my move and starting law school Monday.

Thanks a lot for all the input.

  2. Oh, yeah, I definitely don't want it getting up that high. That's what I'm trying to avoid, but I may not have worded it well earlier. I was hoping someone would tell me to just run a big fan, but I wasn't sure that alone could handle the high heat. If it's worked for others, though, I'm definitely willing to try. Thanks!

  3. Well, title says it all. It's hard to fit everything in the stand of my 72 gallon bowfront, and since I'm buying a house now and can officially do whatever I want, I'm considering putting the sump in the garage. Seems like I've seen this done a lot on forums, but it's been a while since I've paid attention, so I'm not sure how practical this is in Texas. I guess you just HAVE to run a chiller if you do this? And the refugium would need to stay indoors? Thoughts? Thanks.

  4. Yeah, sorry guys. One of the other members did kindly offered to take care of the tank for my while I'm in between homes, so I think I'm going to take her up on it. I should have posted something on here about it but we hadn't really worked it out yet and I've been incredibly busy with a bachelor party I had to travel for last weekend and I'm back out of town for work right now.

  5. Well I just bought a house in Houston and I'll have about 2 weeks where I'll be in-between houses...unfortunately my tank has no friends to sleep with during this time. So...if it's living, it's for sale:

Sorry about the crappy pics. I'm sure there's more to come.

Oh. One last thing. Some of the LR has what I believe to be some red gelidium on it. I just recently made a post on here to figure that out, and after using the blow torch on a couple pieces that were easily removed, it's been eradicated from those pieces. There are two more pieces that have a pretty bad case of it, the center piece w/eagle eyes and the one with the jokers. Haven't wanted to take them out since one is a base piece and the other is home to the goby/shrimp. I can torch the stuff when I pull it out though.

  6. Having attempted to bond acrylic and glass, I would recommend using glass partitions instead. You might be able to get it to work for a while, but I would have concerns about the bond lasting permanently. Also, I'm pretty sure most people use 1/8" glass for partitions. The outer walls of the tank need to be 1/4" because they're taking the bulk of the pressure, the partitions won't really be stressed.

  7. Ok. I'm 99% sure you're right, too. Gelidium or red turf algae. Same thing really. Fortunately, I'll be breaking my tank down in a month and moving to Houston. Sounds like a perfect time to break out the ole torch. In the mean time I'll grab some mexican turbos. Feels...a lot like cheating though. I guess the die off won't have much of an effect? No one seems to have had an issue with just sticking the rocks back in the tank afterwards.

  8. Two 35 gallon storage tanks with sturdy metal stand- $150. I use one to keep salt water mixed at all times and the other for fresh rodi. It's been an excellent system for me but I'm about to have to move and won't have room for it at the new place. I'm located southwest, next to 290/Lamar.

  9. Hmm. Well that's definitely closer than I was able to find. From the pictures I saw of Cotton Candy Algae it looks to be composed of much thinner strands, but yeah, certainly has a similar growth pattern. I'll have to grab some turbo snails and see if they'll eat it. Thanks a lot.

  10. Does anyone know what this purple fuzzy stuff is? I haven't been able to find anything online. I first noticed it as a 2-3 inch patch on (the only) piece of live rock I introduced to my tank. It didn't seem to grow much but after having to work out of state for 3 months and neglecting the tank, it has now covered numerous rocks. Thanks in advance.

  11. Hmm. That's interesting. Who knows what happened then. Well I'll be running carbon and GFO as soon as I get my shipment in from BRS, and I'm also shopping around for a UV sterilizer. Surely between all this and keeping a better eye out for any more temperature mishaps I can avoid any more "major' problems...Or, I guess, greatly limit the possibility of something like this happening again.
