  1. Anyone have any good article links to pvc /great stuff/zip tie/home made live rock or other DIY structures?

I saved some a couple of years ago that were spectacular but have been sifting through my thousands of bookmarks and have yet to find them again. I Have lots of my own ideas but wanted some reference points to help.

    Anyone got any good tips?

I'm planning on a 2" pvc arch with greatstuff ledges extended from the upright sections, I'll use concrete repair and silicon to coat the great stuff after i make swiss cheese out of it.

  2. My death rates are higher then I'd like, but well under whats considered normal for a dealer tank, I'm shooting for 0% though. the stock is rotating because its selling.

subsea, How long does it ussually take a DSB to become beneficial in your experience?

  3. I really dont remember how I came up with my name, I've been using it for over ten years, It just sounded good and I dont like using numbers, I'm also always guaranteed to have it available on any given website with a log in requirement.

She isnt a true savannah, she has the tufts and broken stripes, I think she is only 1/4 serval instead of half, but she was an adoption, she wandered into my life so to speak.

  4. Ok, this does help, I can rearrange some rock work and take out some dividers, my salt mix cant be helped. I can also reduce the lighting most days, and yes, the bulbs are old, another red tape battle. And commercially I cant use a power strip permanently per the fire marshal, the water is filtered heavily with carbon, a huge industrial culligan filter, but its still a far cry from RO, and as far as transporting RO myself, I just cant afford it, or I would gladly donate it to fix the tanks, replacing evaporation alone would send me to the poor house.

I ask about mag/cal because I know thats one thing that is effecting the water and that I can test. This water is the worst I've ever seen, there has to be more that is wrong with it other then the hardness, I've had every classical problem in these tanks, its driving me crazy.

  5. I upgraded from a 10 to a 20g and need more liverock, willing to pay reasonable prices within a reasonable distance. Also why I need power head, I need something very compact and adjustable.

I have been donating my excess cheato to a LFS for charity but have recently/accidentally killed off my colony and the LFS has run out, please let me know if you an help out.

  6. DROOL, that would be so cute, those edge tanks are beautiful, except for there size, they even have a little heater designed for it. I dont know about cleaning but the biggest complaint I've had on it is that the stock halogen has to be replaced so often because of water splashing. And there right about nano-reef, they have so much info for gal 1 to 29, and no, according to them you don't have to keep a skimmer, i didn't have one for 2 years on my 10g and never reached more then 5 ppm on nitrates.

  7. You had two 100 gal tanks, with constantly rotating stock and live rock and were only allowed to use local tap water for water changes. You only have basic salt water supplies on-hand and no money to buy any thing extra...more specifically....How do you fix the mag/ calcium ratio on the cheap, assuming you guys in Austin have the same hard water problems as in Killeen.

Other points to ponder...How do you increase water flow with no power outlets?

and the only magnesium test Ive found was at an LFS was aquatek at 35 bucks, anyone point me to something more economical?

This is an out of the box discussion, I'm trying to get ideas for what to do at work, so any arguments that I "Should be installing an Ro unit" are a given, I'm already fighting that paper trail battle.

So, if you had to use the local tap water, what would you be doing to keep your water parameters where they should be?

    Ammonia 0

    Nitrites 0

Nitrates fluctuate from 20 to 80 ppm

    SG 1.024

Calcium at 600 estimate, its off the charts for my tester

    cant test magnesium yet

    Would you dose Iodine?

One tank has T8s another T5s

    Intermittent Ciano problems

  8. Hi, I'm Sadie, I work at a pet store in Harker Hieghts Tx, Ive had fish for almost 20 years now, and I started a 5.5g saltwater 2 years ago, it quickly moved up to a 10g and just today I transferred everything to a 20g. I've always been a planted tank enthusiast, and a gift of a blue crab made me start on this salt water expedition. I'm starting over, through no choice of my own, when I moved here I had a thriving nano reef with countless softies a few LPS , fish and invertebrates, half died on arrival and the other half by a horrible overheating accident this summer. So now I'm looking for others like me, who have bypassed the beginner stages and made mistakes, and want to soldier on continuing to learn about such a facinating hobby.

I live in an Rv, 175 square feet, I keep chickens, garden and cook on an open fire at least weekly. I also create art, sculpture, found object and paint. In addition to my one blue yellow tail damsel, I have a corn snake, ball python, chillian rose and pink toed tarantulas, an Australian white's tree frog, two red eye tree frogs, a big eye tree frog, a crested gecko, a blue healer and a savanna cat.

    Hi
