i found raising the overall pH to not be as.... evasive as lowering the overall pH. The idea was to kill off all the aiptasia/mojano/bubble algae. If after a week there's anything left, we go the vinegar route.... after a water-change of course I'm not so worried about the stuff you can see and manually clean. im worried about the stuff you CANT see and/or get to. also, the bag was like 3 bux. to make the pH swing this much w/ vinegar... probably 5-7 bux *lol* either way would work, end goal is nuke the tank.. soften things up to scrape, clean it, re-set the tank new, start some acidwashed rock cycling.

Small update on my neighbors mojano/aiptasia/bubble algae overrun tank.... Today was quarantine & nuke day! we pulled all the remaining rock out, fragged off anything we wanted to keep. rock will be acidwashed/dried. The first batch of acidwash rock is ready to cycle.... but we need a place to cycle it! so we nuked the DT, gonna clean it out in a week, cycle in place. 50g holding tank... 160 (or 180 cant remember) display tank w/ a full bag of kalk (pickling lime from wallyworld) His house is gonna stiiiiiiiiiiiiink.

+10000 Airgas.... ended up being an airgos bottle, no recert, just a swap. $30. I know its more than some otehr places, but factor in no recert, onhand swaps, etc... well worth it.

my 10# tank is stamped 2011, austin home brew woudlnt refill it w/o a new sticker. aside from AAA, do you know who does the recertifications or would swap a food grade tank?
-
my main 5lb 10lb co2 tank ran out tonight... lasted 18mo. luckily i picked up a 2.5lb 5lb along the way as a backup... where do people get co2 refills? (not sure i want a swap, this one is tagged food grade which might be glass lined)

anyone use glycerin in the bubble counter? im tired of the evap refills. is it just plain veggie glycerin 99.9% USP (ie the type i use in my cig juice?)

90mins after the change, nitrate 60ish. we calculated it to be about 75% water change. so.. original off the chart test was around 240-250 w/ these numbers. crazy man, CRAZY. test again in the morning, may start his fish drinking everclear!

so im at my neighbors house, and i notice his tank is.... lets say struggling yes? struggling. "dude, let me test your water" it went off the API scale in under 30 secs (its a 5 min test). So we know, at a bare min, 200, factoring delays and titration of a normal test... its probably like 600-800. but i digress. "me: you have any salt?" "him: i have this bucket" "me: still got that barrel?" "him: yea" "me: pull it out, ill go get my smaller barrels" 90ish gallon water change on a 160 w/ liverock.... so 60-70%? 1hr on mix, 40 mins for the water change.... I made my 9pm conf call at work. farg im exhausted. oh yea, his skimmer was dead.. like dead dead.. so not he has my old skimmer too *lol* anyone got some bourbon?

It all fell apart when you left us Jestep! Next time give us warning before you leave. [emoji12] why you always shifting blame? -
My neighbor has been using this pump for about 6 months without any issues. his main complaint is having to check the levels in the bottles now. Those 1.5gal vinegar jugs from costco/sams are perfect for this

In lieu of a new thread titled "Im still in," I'll just reply here! yes, people can be abrasive at times, yes, people can be blunt a's sometimes... but such is life. The amount of knowledge shared in ARC far surpass many many forums in the industry. This is possible due to the moderators nipping things in the bud quickly, but they cant do it alone, You have to help. This does not mean be super offended if you have a peanut allergy and someone makes a "peanut gallery" quip (that's a sarcastic example). If you overload the mods w/ petty drama, the real problem children will follow along and may slip through the cracks. As a personal example... sometimes i may come off arrogant, either because I'm quoting research, had my head into the data for too long, just [think I] know how it is based on experience, or simply cant convey my thoughts into words. it does not mean I'm trying to be an arrogant a-hole, just my delivery might be.... blunt. Don't argue just to argue. Don't automatically get offended due to the lack of inflection... take everything in context, reach out to someone you think is off the rails, and if that doesn't help, ping a moderator. Don't shut communication down if you feel offended, try and figure out if that was the original intent, more often than not, the other side never intended that. Complaining, while trying to address the problem, is most often always welcome. Complaining just to complain while shutting down... not constructive (unless its about Ty... he knows why!) EDIT: forgot to mention.. when i cant word things for normal humans and sound like Spock or Borg, my friends say "don't Isaac me." that's the hint that im either talking above their head, or below them, and I need to reword things sanely. It happens to all of us, just need to adjust sometimes! Its rarely meant to be offensive. (engineers & mathheads have this curse more than others, ask jolt!) -
I just realized my tank's birthday is today. it turned 2

had to frag off some of my chalice.. shadowing lower levels and too close to a frogspawn...... anyone know if this is alien-eye, hollywood stunner, or something else? Going to wait a week until i post them in FS groups, but up for trades now (pardon the DIY rack, waiting on a real one) came off this:
-
never thought i'd be able to post this.... the aiptasia in one of my overflow columns is gone... all of it! a pair of peppermint shrimp who now call that overflow home ate em all up. I guess w/ the lack of easier food, they WILL actually eat aiptasia! have yet to see it in the tank itself, fingers crossed.

0-5 nitrates here.... hope they dont starve silly maroon clown keeps moving the candycane around. didnt wanna glue it down until i found a good spot it liked. grrrrrrrr.
-
i;m hoping some do walk, so i can split that rock up and spread em out but they do look awesome as a carpet like this.
-
new additions from kevin! candycane cluster in the center and ricordea yuma (i think, what else is a 'fuzzy mushroom') back right:
-
also, i might be willing to sell this large paly "dome." cant really say rock, its hollow underneath. It started spreading off the "dome," so the next person can use it as filler/seed
-
acro time! w/ tank stabilized and 0-5nitrates and 9ish dKh consistently, its finally time! first, some "rescue" frags from juiceman's tank... they started out looking "eh," im seeing a small recovery, not much. in tank about a week now: small birdsnest i picked up at RCA maybe a month ago, polyps started showing this week: And today's RCA special... hope he thrives, lookin like it wants some love:
