hmm. i was also thinking a media basket maybe. I removed some of the balls today maybe 10 or so.

So from what i here the bioballs that go in chamber two of the biocube are bad. So is it safe to remove them from an established tank? also what should i put in the empty space live rock rubble?

definatly not sand silt.

milky white beighish. I'll work on a picture.

ok. good idea. I replaced the filter media and it is clearing. Clown died unfourtunatly . Not sure why. but anyways. I am trying to keep the coral alive and get my water to normal. still cloudy. I don't think it is sand it looks more like algae maybe.

ammonia is a little high. 0.2
so i'll wait.

I'll go check my parameters. It is very cloudy. As in I can't see all the way through it.

I bought a biocube today from don duncan. We took everything out except the sand. So I readded all the water to the tank and the sand went everywhere. I know it will settle eventually but all the coral and a maroon clown are sitting in 5gallon buckets of saltwater. How long can they last in there? I plan on putting everything in as soon as the water clears. Is it safe to put them in before it clears? also should I run the filter? will that help? I heard it might actuall hurt the whole process.

hmm. I'll look into it

Last summer i went snubaing( it is a cross between snokling and scuba diving) in mexico and I saw a really cool rock that i took back home. I think it is dead coral. I was wondering if it would be safe to add to my tank. It has been out of the water for over a year. The only reason i want to add it is because it makes a nice cave shape and I heard it will help buffer ph and add calcium to the water. I don't think it would hurt anything to add it but i wanted to check.
P.S. Are maroon Clowns aggresive. I have heard mixed reviews.

It was hard. I was cheering in the student section. I guess i should have probably stated that in the original post. I am 16. I know that makes me a kid to most of you but I try to stay as mature as possible.

I don't mind the drive. It's just hard to get up there during the week with school. And i plan on getting frags from some of you guys. You all seem to have great corals. I was also hoping to buys some live rock and sand off some people.

Thanks. I was thinking a small maroon clown, 6 line wrasse and maybe a blackcap basslet. Also Did you keep the bioballs in or take them out?

I plan on setting up my 29 biocube in the next two weeks and to begin to cycle it. It will be my first saltwater set up and I want everything to go smooth. I plan on buying a CPR Aquatics SR3 Protein Skimmer. Does anyone have any experience with this skimmer and is it a good model? Also, is skimming necessay while i cycle the tank?

I was also curious as to what mind of corals i can keep with stock lighting?
The stock lighting is Lighting system: 1-36 Watt 10K Straight Pin Compact Fluorescent, 1-36W True Actinic 03 Straight Pin Compact Fluorescent. It also has moon lights but i am fairly certain those are just asthetic.
I know I can keep softies and leather coral. But what about mushrooms, zoas and LPS's? I am fairly certain i can once i get the tank established. I know SPS and clams would need metal halides.

I have seen aquadome before but i never really paid attention to the sign. But it is definitely closer. I plan on being there alot especially in the first few weeks.

Hello,
I have recently to decided to take up the hobby of keeping a marine reef aquarium. I am very new to this and I hope for as much help as you guys will give me.
I don't have a tank yet but I plan on setting up a 29g biocube or a 24g JBJ nano cube. I am leaning towards to the biocube.
Checked out Aquatek today and I loved the place. Only complaint was the drive. What is the closest LFS to south Austin?
Anyways, I am glad to be here and I hope to make it to some of the offical meetings.
Removing bioballs.
