  1. so im pretty sure my bicolor angel is starting a case of ich what is the best course of action i just noticed it this mourning i tested the water nitrate and nitrite and ammonia were all at zero the tank is a fish only tank any suggestions?

  2. so i have a 55 gallon tank that is fish only with a clown fish and a damsel in it at the moment. i currently have 20 pounds of live rock and i run two 55 gallon rated hang on filters but i want to upgrade the filtration system and a sump would be near impossible to fit under my tank. so my question is what is the next best way to go i plan on keeping it fish only and possibly an anemone(maby) since i am very new to saltwater what would be the next best filtration method after a sump

  3. thank you all very much! from now on im going with RODI water only i just called around and there is a LFS in san marcos that is actually starting to sell RODI water in two weeks no more tap water for me! lesson learned

  4. no worries no insult taken i know im a beginner in salt and im very prone to make some very rookie mistakes there are just somethings all of my books on saltwater keeping doesnt really cover in great detail.... it was a 5 gallon water change in a 55 gallon tank i plan on investing in a RODI unit as soon as i can .... as far as de-chlorination i did not de chlorinate the water since i had talked with a man who works at aquadome who said he had no issues with using tap water in his salt fish only tank

  5. i am using oceanic salt and i had been using tap water with no issues but can i get away with using the ro water from the culligan machine at walmart the closest places i know of that sells ro water to me is 20 miles in any direction

  6. the water change salinity was 1.022 and the water change temp was 78 degrees the tank runs at a steady 80 degrees the mix had been left mixing for 10 to 15 minutes this is the same process i had followed for every water change before i lost all fish it is a fish only tank except for the two very small cleaner crabs that survived as far as what test kit i am using it is an api saltwater marine test kit

  7. so today my 4 month old fish only tank had a massive failure after a water change =( i lost my black clown fish, coral beauty and my 3 stripe damsel for the life of me i cant find what went wrong when i measured the tanks levels i fount this PH: 8.2

    NO2 Nitrite: 0

    NO3 Nitrate: 0

    NH3/NH4 Ammonia: 0

    GH General Hardness: 180

    KH Carbonate Hardness: 240

    Salinity: 1.021

i was quite devastated at the loss of my beautiful fish steve at pollys said it must be my waters KH and GH can anyone offer any insight to my situation

  8. ok well here is the deal i am in the process of setting up and getting my first salt tank up and running and i have been trying to do my best to reaserch and find what would be the best lighting i shuold use but i kinda wanted some advise from some people with more experience so what would be the best choice for a beginner who wants to keep a simple tank but in the future wants to add corals and anemones

  9. well i have a 55 gallon and i am still adding live rock andi plan on about 55 lbs and i plan on getting the best skimmer i can afford but plan on dedicateing a good bit of money to that cost i dont want to go crazy with stocking i just wanted to keep things simple for now but i have been doing alot of reading that says stocking saltwater was quite a bit different so i just wanted to see what the best way to go was

  10. over the past few weeks i have been doing alot of reading on stocking levels and i have found a wide range of different answers so what is the general rule of thumb that everyone feels is the best way to go

  11. i am currently doing my frst saltwater reef tank (55 gal) and i have been reaserching all differrent kinds of filtration most everyone reccomends a sump but i have never used one but i personally am leaning towards a rena fillstar xp3 cannester can anyone offer any guidance because it seems the more reaserch i do the more i cant come to a definate conclusion
