Do you have any tips for aquascape in the tank? Right now it looks highly unnatural especially with the lack of corals... SChambers Posted June 12, 2019 Author Share Posted June 12, 2019 So I added about 15 lbs of dry rock to the 20 lbs of live rock already in the tank to aquascape it a bit better. Jolt hooked me up with some great corals that I have been keeping toward the front to acclimate. In the next day or two I want to move them to rock and hopefully get everything going. I'm thinking about moving this to over to a tank build to try and document the process my tank makes as I learn more and more since this has gotten a bit away from the cyanobacteria discussion. Current parameters: PO4 - 0 Mg - 1320 Ca - 410 pH - 8 KH - 11.2 NO3 - 10 Salinity - 1.024 I got my Mg and Ca up; however, the KH went up even more so I need to try and figure out how to address that. jolt Posted June 12, 2019 Share Posted June 12, 2019 I agree, start a build thread. First thing to discuss there is how you are maintaining Alk. There is a relationship between Ca, Mg, and Kh that you might want to understand. When you raised the magnesium it allowed the Ca and Alk to rise. Now you need to stop adding Alk for a while until the corals begin reducing it. That could take quite a while since your corals are small and not settled in. Timfish Posted June 12, 2019 Share Posted June 12, 2019 I would stop using Chemipure until your PO4 climbs up a bit. Corals are phosphate limited when it comes to using up nitrogen and keeping it too low causes problems which makes them very sensitive to environmental changes and can weaken thier immune system. Research done by Southhampton University in England with a variety of corals maintained for a minimum of 2 years found a threshold level of .03 mg/l. Corals are also subjected to much higher levels in nature so don't be concerned if PO4 is .1 or .2 mg/l. SChambers Posted June 13, 2019 Author Share Posted June 13, 2019 Thanks Tim, I will work on trying to get the phosphate levels up... the salifert kit does not have ideal resolution it seems and I keep doubling up to try and get the higher resolution, but even then I didn't see any color to call it above 0.
