DIY Tank Screen Top Corner

Recommended Posts

I wanted a way to have a screen top to accommodate some wrasses but wanted to be able to have something that both looked good and kept the fish from going Dory.

Here's what I came up with.

I started by drilling a hole in a piece of 1/4 inch acrylic. Using my table saw I then cut it to the size I wanted.bed94c196cbfb677fb0ae13205196021.jpg

Using acrylic glue, I then glued strips of the same 1/4 acrylic to the square. Essentially, I'm making a replacement corner piece for the screen kit.

Then all I had to do was measure the sides just as I would to make a standard screen top and assemble it as usual.372ca4afb1f35acb1e3fabd9035360d0.jpgbbe978d291064a56daa20846cf6a0415.jpgfe572197504d9c8273492e5161a72790.jpg

If I had a 3D printer, it'd be a spiffy project to make a pattern for a corner that could just be printed.

Actually, those parts all already exist and have been designed.  Hit me up, I'm happy to print some pieces out for you.

What I'm not seeing is corners with cut-outs to allow for cords/wires etc. Am I just missing that?

A miniature Winterfell would look great in my frag tank!

Once someone has made the basic design it's a snap to modify it.  Here's a quick modification I made to the part on the left to get the part on the right.

(modified https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1741388)

Are you using 1/2" screen frame or 3/4"? (edit - may be 5/16" as well)

How large of a cutout do you need?

Beautiful! And a much more polished version than the one I cobbled together. I'm good as I already made mine from acrylic. I had offered to make an acrylic pair for Ty but he may prefer to go with this. My hat's off to you.

The sadder part is you watched it until the end. emoji23.png

The even sadder part is you can't unhear it and it may remain with you every time you watch GoT.

Mike's already loaded! He owns ARC! That's at least worth a billion dollars now I'm sure.
