Order from Cultivated Reefs

Aloha Austin Reefers! I just heard from the lovely folks at Cultivated Reef that they will be getting a new shipment of rock flower anemones in probably next week, so I will probably be making an order from them next weekend or the following week. I know there's been some talk about their SPS as well as Internet ordering in general, so would be anyone be interested in going in on a group order? If it helps make up your mind, one of the reasons I like ordering from them is, if you ask they will send you wysiwyg photos of the frags you're interested in to choose from.

Anyways I probably won't be ordering til next weekend or the week following so there's some time to think about it. Also I will be ordering enough to get free shipping anyhow, but I wanted to put that out there in case anyone else is interested in even one piece and getting free shipping.

Hey Peter, they don't do free shipping, just a tiered discount off the flat rate shipping rate. How do you plan to distribute the discount, equally among all that order or a weighted distribution based on how much the person spent?

I may be interested in ordering a couple pieces.

I just talked to them and Holly said that they would ignore the tier discount and do free shipping for us for the group buy.

Wheeling and dealing! Awesome!

I'm in for the order, let me know what the best way is to do this, whether to PayPal you the money or order through them directly and leave a note that its for the Austin group buy. Thanks for putting this together Peter!

Hey guys,

Peter is doing an awesome job organizing this but I thought I would help him out a little :)

I think the best way for anyone interested in participating is to place there own individual order on www.cultivatedreef.com and in the check out notes let me know this is for the Austin Group Buy. Also select "Store Pickup" to avoid paying a shipping fee since I plan to cover the shipping costs regardless of what the total amount ends up being.

The neat thing about this is by doing it this way you will still be able to take advantage of our TIER DISCOUNT. That discount will come off your total if you qualify. So you essentially will be able to double dip by being guaranteed free shipping but still being able to earn your own personal tier discount. Plus everyone will earn there own Reward Points which will go into there account for a later date :)

The 50% specials end Tuesday at midnight I believe. The thread highlighting this deal is here...http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/37704-50-off-15-high-end-corals/ So anyone wanting to take advantage of those killer deals should consider placing there order before Wednesday. You can always place a second order later on if you choose but at least you will have claimed your 50% off coral in the meantime. Everything will be compiled into this group buy order.

All orders will be held until the decided ship date. All bags will be labeled with the coral name and the owners name. I will be watching the thread to help answer any questions.

Thanks so much!

Holly

Any idea on specific order / delivery date along with pick-up location? Trying to plan around the holidays and would like to catch the 50% special.

Good question! Apparently you can place your order before Tuesday when the special ends and he'll just hold it to ship with the group order when it all ships.

I get paid on Thursday, so that's when I'll likely make my order, but anyone else can do so beforehand. I think that we should aim to deliver next week. I'm more than happy to be the delivery-point. I work eleven hour days Monday through Thursday though, so I would probably want it delivered Friday the 25th?

Can we aim for this Friday if possible just to avoid the holidays in general? I know I'll be gone through a lot of it next week.

I don't mind being a delivery point as well since I work from home most days and live near the Domain. I'm fine with Peter being the delivery point as well if it works better. I'll be putting my order in shortly today.

Ordering

1) Peter

2) Ty

Maybe ordering

1) Juiceman

2) Sascha

3) Rosslonghorns

Oh that's right; next week is Thanksgiving!!! I forgot that.

I'm fine with you being the delivery point Ty; you're close to me as well and you have more flexibility in terms of time than I.

I think I can place my order such that it can be delivered Friday but I have to check with Holly, as I don't get paid til Thursday so I wouldn't be able to pay them til Thursday morning. Still, I think that's doable. I'll find out now.

I just talked with them. We are a go for a Friday delivery; I'll place my order Thursday morning.

Is everyone good with shipping to Ty? I like this plan because it means I get to see the Epic Acro Farm in person, hahaha.

Hey hey, no free looks at the acro farm... I charge per peek! [emoji12]

That sounds great for me receiving and Reburn is familiar enough with my house by now so I'm betting he doesn't have a problem with that. [emoji6]

I'm chatting with Holly right now about the pieces I'll be ordering and we can aim for this Friday delivery.

I may join in on the order also if I see anything I like once Holly gets back to me with some photos. I can pick up on Friday but it won't be until the afternoon sometime, do you guys think that would be alright?

You should be fine. Ideally you'd want to pick it up as soon as possible and start acclimating it out of the bag but afternoon should be fine too.

Ty...I would suggest not placing the coral that is waiting to be picked up in your tank or sump etc. It would better to leave them at room temperature in the shipping box versus warming them up to 78ish degrees and putting reef light on them. That will help keep them in a hibernating mode. At least this is my gut feeling. I have no scientific evidence to support this though lol :)

Thanks Holly! I'll leave it up to the buyer to tell me what they want me to do with it. I have no idea myself but the less temp swings, the better I'm sure. The sump will be dark at least so no lights.

I suspect the science for this is that once there are lights there is more metabolic actiirt, which could put more waste products into the water as a result of cellular respiration...so if I'm right the sump should take care of that perfectly, being lightless!

Errrr that was supposed to say "metabolic activity," not whatever mess that is. Further evidence I shouldn't be tapatalking at work, hahaha.
