Done lurking, thought I'd say hello

Hey everyone!

I recently decided to jump into reefkeeping. I had kept many freshwater tanks years ago, moved around a bit and never really got back to the hobby. I finally settled in Austin in '08 and am fully addicted, doubt I'll move away... so I got the itch to get back into the hobby and up my game.

Started my first reef tank a few months back. I'm just starting to add coral, but have a population of fish that are happy and growing. Looking forward to see what I can learn here.

I've got a 5' 90 gallon display which is near full fish wise (I think)

Pair of percula clowns

4 bluegreen chromis

Royal Gramma basslet

Bicolor blenny

Six stripe wrasse

Foxface

Would like to add a little more, but trying to decide what.

Going softies + LPS in the tank for coral. So far I have:

xenia (now separated into two bits)

zoa rock

hammer

candy cane/torch/trumpet

fox

some striped mushrooms

The hammer and candy cane are a good size already, everything else tiny. I imagine I'll add some more euphyllia because it's fun, pretty, easy... just gotta make sure I have enough space around it.

As you can see I've got a lot of bare rock, very open to suggestions as I'd like to get a lot more life in here.

On the fish side I figure I've got enough room in my bio load for one more decent size fish to grow for a while (yellow eyed kole maybe?) or a few medium size. I'd love a hippo tang but I don't think this size tank could keep it happy and healthy for very long.

Some gorgonians would look great in there. The photosynthetic ones are super easy and they would fill a lot of the empty vertical space and several types provide great visual movement.

Here's a picture of a few in a frag tank that I found. These are some thicker ones, but you get the idea.

Here's a good article on them: https://reefbuilders.com/2013/01/26/photosynthetic-gorgonians-home-aquaria/

They're about as indestructible as anything you can keep in a tank.

This is a great place to get cheap ones as well as really high quality macro algaes: http://www.live-plants.com/

The purple and yellow plume varieties are my favorite. They flow really well with the water movement and aren't as aggressive as some others.

Just saw some of the purple gorgonians at Aquatek. Straight out of the bag.
