Aspen
I've tried balancing out the water by adding macro algae and a nitrate reducer after a 40% water change. 2 weeks later nothing has changed. What am I doing wrong? Sent from my P01M using Tapatalk
jestep
What's your stocking and maintenance routine? Also, what NO3 are you measuring, sky high is a tad bit ambiguous?

Juiceman
Nitrates are from an UN-established Bio Filter or from Overstocking... Please answer the questions above so we can try to assist you. And what is the actual NA reading?
Timfish
Phosphate is a limiting nutrient for corals to utilize nitrates do high nitrates can also be from not having enough phosphate. One system I looked at last year a 10% water change dropped nitrates by 90% after a week and a half. It can also be from corals not feeding well presumably because of DOC released by algae. Look at my thread "hair algae, a case study" dealing with hair algae in Mike Frames tank. Nitrates, while not high, stayed level until after the hair algae dissappeared. Sascha D.
If you had high nitrates, did a 40% water change, and the nitrates were still high, then I'm going to guess it's the water source. Make a small amount of new saltwater and test the nitrates.
