sethsolomon
Hello everyone! My name is Seth Solomon, I am a Java Developer from Colorado and I am considering moving to Austin. I am still addicted to this hobby as the day I started. I have been in the Hobby for 7 years. I am currently very active in the Colorado Reef club (MASC) and if I move down to Austin, I will be active here As for my reefing preferences, I am a hardcore Metal Halide guy. I have tried LED's and T5's and I will never go back. My 120g is lit with 2x 250w Phoenix 14k bulbs and 160w of blue LED. I am also a control freak when it comes to my tank. I have each of my tanks ran with Apex controllers. Also, I love the Jebao wavemakers. Most bang for the buck you can get for flow. My current tanks are a 120g mixed reef and currently setting up a 80g Coldwater reef. Top 3 favorite fish: Midas Blenny, Rhomboid Wrasse, Lineautise Wrasse and who doesn't love pics! and videos http://s795.photobucket.com/user/diablomaster9045/media/VID_20140409_170523_zpsf7skhxjv.mp4.html http://s795.photobucket.com/user/diablomaster9045/media/VID_20140527_152824_zpsivjfnmkv.mp4.html

victoly
I love that you take time to explore the reef club as a metric of whether or by to move. You'll fit right in here. Recovering led addict here as well. Run 250w radium on a bio cube

sethsolomon
Also, what are the best shops in Austin for getting coral? Any "hidden" sellers that are notable to mention?
+brian.srock
For the best corals check out Farmer Ty's. Aquatek, Rivercity City Aquatics, and Aqua-Dome are the 3 best LFS here.
jestep
Austin aqua farm is a good one as well. They're only open on Saturdays for pickup though.

+OU12004
I lived in Littleton for 5 years and I would have to give the edge to Austin as far as LFS go. AAF is coral only but they get some really high end stuff, The Dome is near me and has an incredible selection so that is my favorite. River city has a great selection as well and they seem to have more named SPS. Just my 2 cents but I also have t-5's and a hang on the back filter so that may tell you something. Good to hear on the Jabao, do you have the RW or the older ones?

FarmerTy
What's all this Tankfucious and Farmer Ty business!? Austin Aqua Farms definitely has some nice high-end pieces. I like the fish selection at Aquadome, the great frag finds at RCA, the locally available high end additives/equipment at Aquatek, and the great random finds at Niko's (especially their LPS collection). My own tank is in restocking mode after the great upgrade calamity of 2014! That feather star is awesome, and much respect for catering to its needs! +Jimbo662
Welcome! You'll have to fill us all in on your phyto set up. I just recently got a new tank up and running and am finally having success with SPS so far. I just picked 4 pieces from aqua farms. The blasto I got last week looks amazing. can't wait to get the new ones acclimated an in the tank.

My phyto setup is just 6x 3g glass carboys bubbling with a 100 lpm air pump. I have 6 different varieties of phyto. 3 green and 3 red. I will get some pictures tonight. sethsolomon
So If I make the move anyone have a large QT tank/ frag tank that I could ship corals to until I get a new tank setup down in Austin? I am probably going to upgrade to a 180g or 210g.
