Mushrooms need to frag

Hello all,

I have a mushroom rock that needs to be fragged. One of my first corals that I started with... I got it from Petco... They called it a "green" mushroom... I would like If someone could come show me how to frag it, would be great.... I really would like just to keep one...

Would like to help newbies, as I have been shown love here, and would like to repay the favor if possible...

The rock is about 3 - 4" wide by about 3" tall & 2" deep?? It is a nice piece of rock, with good amount of coralline...

Has about 7 Shrooms, & I've seen 2 babies... I'd guess the rock to be about 3-5 lbs?? 2 of the Shrooms are huge

It's really pretty simple, just take a sharp razor blade and slice it down the middle. If you can get part of the mouth, great, but try to get part of the foot as well. You can cut it into halves or thirds depending on how many you want. In tanks where they're doing well they often reproduce quickly without assistance as yours appear to be doing.

I have heard (but haven't done and don't recommend) of people putting a mushroom in a blender, pulse once or twice, then pour the pieces in their tank. In months they had mushrooms everywhere though it seems a bit barbaric.

I wonder if putting them in a blender would actually work.

i'd vote yes and no. i bet a blender would get you a few pieces that would be survivable, a few pieces that would be obliterated and tosses, and maybe a large scarred up piece left over. i bet you end up with a lot more frags if you cut it with a knife or scissors.

Ok, thx.... I was thinking of cutting up rock? So it would be stuck to a piece of rubble?

You might able to use a pair of stony coral cutters/snips. That size rock might prove to be difficult though. If the rock is really light and porous, you could probably nip through it. If you know someone with a coral saw of wet tile saw, that would be best.

+1 for Dennis for debunking the blender conspiracy.
