Took some of your tips to heart and tried out my Nikon L20 point and shoot. Better result I think!

These appear alot darker here than on my monitor. Must be time to re-calibrate my monitor.

If you edit on a laptop.. the angle that you look at the screen can have a big affect on your outcome. Essentially the gamma will never be the same every time.
